Early Literacy for 4 year olds 2024-2025
Early Literacy for 4 Year Olds is provided by House Bill 352 which is put into place to help ensure that students in Montana are proficient in reading by the 3rd grade. Fairfield Schools will transition our current 1/2 day early kindergarten program to Early Literacy for 4 year olds to comply with the law. Look for coming information in the next few weeks and months but to help parents make a decision about sending their child check out the FAQ's.
1. Child must turn 4 by September 10th.
2. Montana Early Childhood Education Standards which are in current revision will be followed.
3. Parent must give permission for their child to be pre-assessed using the STAR Early Literacy program to determine proficiency. Screening will take place in April, May or June to be eligible. (Watch for dates and permission slips)
4. Students in the Early Literacy for 4 year olds program will transition to full day Kindergarten the following year. There is no retention in this program.
Federal Assessments
Fairfield students in grades 3-8 will participate in the MAST (Montana Aligned to Standards Through-Year) pilot assessment given in the window April 15-May 10. This will replace the SBAC testing that has been given the past several years. Students in grades 5 and 8 will still take the SBAC Science this year.
Juniors will take the ACT test March 26th and Sophomores will take the pre-ACT on March 27th.
