Wayne Student Leaders Learn About New Programs and Career Pathways
The Principal’s Student Leadership Committee (PSLC) recently welcomed Sean Kiriakis, HHCS secondary curriculum supervisor, as a guest speaker during their monthly meeting. He talked about his leadership role and shared exciting news about new career tech programs, alternative career pathways, and updated labs coming to Wayne High School. The goal of his presentation was to make sure students know about all the current and upcoming classes and programs available to them.
The PSLC is made up of student leaders from Wayne’s clubs and organizations. They meet each month to learn about leadership and work on projects that impact the school. The group helps students stay involved and have a voice in what’s happening at Wayne.
December Students of the Month
Each month, students at Wayne are nominated through a rotation of departments. This recognition was initiated by the building's PBIS committee. Recognizing students for doing the right thing every day is crucial to fostering a healthy school climate. Shout out to these students who define what it means to be a Warrior!

Valley Forge Students Learn about Dairy Farming
Third-grade students at Valley Forge are exploring the dairy industry through the Adopt-a-Cow program. They’ve been following their adopted calf, Peony, and watching her grow with monthly updates from her farmer, Mackenzie.
Recently, the students learned about Peony’s farm and tracked her growth on a graph. They even made predictions about how tall she’ll be in the next update.
The class is also creating a book about “Flat Peony” and her adventures visiting their classrooms. If you visit Valley Forge, be sure to stop by the third-grade hallway to check out their updates on Peony!
Growing Science
Third graders in Mrs. Norman’s class are learning about growing vegetables through hands-on science. Using an indoor hydroponic garden, they recently grew lettuce while studying the plant life cycle.
The students observed how plants survive and grow, then harvested their lettuce for a fun taste test. They also left some lettuce to keep growing and are tracking its progress through winter break.
After the break, the class plans to start growing herbs. Great job, third graders, on bringing science to life!

Second Graders Dive Into Graphing in Number Corner
This month in Number Corner, second graders have been learning about picture and bar graphs. They started by creating a picture graph, coloring a candy cane, and placing it in the "Yes" or "No" column based on the question, "Do you like peppermint candy canes?"
Next, the students used the data to create their own bar graph on a separate sheet of paper. To wrap up the lesson, they analyzed the results, practicing how to read and interpret graphs.

Holiday Fun Night Recap and Exciting Preschool Updates for the New Year
Our families and staff had a blast at our Holiday Movie and Fun Night! Attendees enjoyed fresh popcorn, candy, chips, drinks, and other treats. A special thank you is due to our PTO, especially to our president, Devi Quinones.
As we begin the new year, preschool students will remain focused on the basics of reading, writing, and math, while making real-world applications to their learning. They will work on identifying letters and their sounds, quantifying items, and recognizing patterns. Students are continuing lessons on the days of the week, months of the year, seasons, and holidays. Additionally, they can now recite their full names and birthdays. Soon, many students will also be able to state their addresses.
The Mobile Dentist will also visit Studebaker on Monday, January 13.
