From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
Please excuse the brevity of my message today. I’ve only time for the essentials…
Tomorrow is Olympic Day! Please pray that the rain holds off. Either way, we will make the most of it. This day is always a nice change of pace and a great way for students to grow in their friendships. It is a lot of work though on the part of teachers and volunteers. So thank you teachers and thank you volunteers for your efforts directed at making Olympic Day a blast. Don’t forget to: apply sunscreen, bring a water bottle, wear comfortable shoes and shorts, wear your class-color shirt, and have fun!
It’s our last chance to ask for donations for our annual Boosterthon Fundraiser! Please take this last opportunity to share our fundraiser to help us meet our fundraising goal of $20,000. We’ve raised just over 80% of our goal - which is great - but please help us close that gap! Thanks to all who’ve spread the word about this fundraiser and who have so generously given. Let’s make one last push!
Ask your child his/her favorite thing about Mass and/or the May Crowning Ceremony from today. It was a beautiful celebration of Mary as our Mother and Queen. And we even had a First Communion - congratulations Luke Erdman! It was a glorious morning!
Have a great evening and God bless!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel
P.S. Please be praying for the College of Cardinals and the whole Church as the Papal Conclave begins. May the Holy Spirit guide each of us - and especially the leaders of our Church.
OLYMPIC DAY: TOMORROW, THURSDAY, MAY 8, 2025
What to wear?
- Olympic Day T-shirts will be sent home on Wednesday, May 7. Students should wear their Olympic Day T-shirts with athletic shorts (or pants), socks and gym shoes to school. Hats may be worn. All clothing should follow the appropriateness guidelines according to the 2024-2025 Parent-Student Handbook (see excerpt on the reverse side).
What to bring?
- Please apply sunscreen to your children in the morning before drop off. Water bottles and hats, if worn, should be labeled with the student’s name.
What to eat?
- A snack will be provided for all students (Goldfish and water, or similar).
- There are two options for lunch:
- Snappy Tomato Pizza can be ordered through Option C. This option will be available through the normal May school lunch ordering. Contact the school office if you need assistance ordering.
- A brown bag lunch, labeled with the student’s full name, may be sent with the student.
DRESS CODE EXCERPT (p. 31, Parent Student Handbook)
Out of Uniform Days / School Picture Day
From time to time the school may permit students to attend school out of their regular uniforms. The mode of dress should be considerate of modesty, child safety, and the academic atmosphere of the school. Clothes worn should be clean and without holes. Shorts, if worn, must extend beyond the fingertips when the arms are at the side. Bare stomachs or backs may not be exposed due to the length of the shirt worn. Yoga Pants, Leggings, Tights, and “Volleyball” Shorts may not be worn on their own - a dress or skirt must be worn over them. Finally, below are some examples of items that are to be avoided during out of uniform days are:
• Open toe shoes and sandals, dangling earrings, wallet chains, radical hair coloring, shorts or pants that have writing across the backside and shorts that are deemed an inappropriate length, and tank tops.
• Garments that through their verbiage or depiction promote association with a group or organization not conducive to a learning environment or in opposition to teachings of the Catholic Church.
School Administration will be the final judge on the appropriateness of the dress. Students who are wearing clothing that is deemed inappropriate will call home for the proper dress. Subsequent out of uniform day(s) may be revoked for students who do not follow these guidelines.

IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. Nearly everyone has signed and returned them. If you have not already, please contact me in the school office. Thank you!
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately if you have not already. Again, most of you took care of this. Thank you!
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager

BLUE FOLDERS
Please return all blue folders to school each week.
BLUE FOLDER CONTENTS THIS WEEK:
- NO BLUE FOLDERS THIS WEEK!!!
Blue folders will go home with the OLDEST student in each family on Wednesdays, as needed, throughout the school year. These will contain any important handouts or forms that need to be submitted in paper form. Anytime we can share documents in a digital format to provide information or link you to online resources, we will do so instead of filling your home with papers.
