A MESSAGE FROM THE BAND DIRECTOR
“Off and Down,” and just like that, our marching season comes to an end. It’s always bittersweet as we bid farewell to the high-energy days on the field. Marching band is where our band family bonds the most, and the memories created will last a lifetime. The time spent together, enduring various challenges and celebrating successes, has reinforced the fact that the Jaguar Band is one large, close-knit family.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on what this year’s marching season brought us. The band staff has had numerous discussions about the achievements of this year, and we’re all in agreement that this has been the best year to date. Success isn’t solely measured by trophies or victories; it’s about the growth throughout the season, the accomplishments achieved, and the joy and pride we see and hear from our students, parents, and community.
Speaking of joy and pride, the energy, excitement, smiles, and overall emotional display at the BOA Super Regional in the Alamo Dome were the greatest markers of success. In that single moment, our students had given their best effort, and they were elated, happy, and proud of what they had achieved. That, in itself, is a tremendous measurement of success!
We also gauge success by growth, and in this aspect, we’ve seen tremendous progress. Looking back five years, we’ve come a long way, overcoming challenges and pushing the program to new heights. We’re now part of conversations about the best bands in Texas. Our name is on the list of the best of the best, and we’ve earned our seat at the table.
For example, finishing 7th in the Area D Finals this year is a remarkable achievement. All six bands ahead of us have participated in the Texas 6A State Championships in the past two years, and four of them were in the Texas State Championship Finals last year. The Cedar Ridge Band, which finished just ahead of us, is the reigning Texas State 2022 Marching Championship Bronze Medalist.
Another example is our performance at the BOA San Antonio Super Regional, where we tied with College Park HS. College Park HS also participated in the Texas State 6A Marching Championships this year. In fact, there were only two bands ahead of us at BOA that did not march in the Texas State Championships this year. Looking at our growth from this perspective, it’s clear that this year has been incredibly successful. We hope that everyone is as proud of our students, our program, and their success as we are!
Looking ahead, this Saturday is the TMEA Region Orchestra Winds & Percussion Auditions, which will impact specific students who signed up for the auditions. We will distribute more information about times and locations to those students as soon as we have it.
This Friday after school, we invite you to join us for “Picnic On The Dots,” a celebration of the marching season put on by our amazing Bands Boosters. It’s a wonderful time for celebrations, photos with the props, and just enjoying the company.
As we wrap up another newsletter, we want to remind you that every day is “a great day to be a Jaguar!” Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the Jaguar Band. We look forward to even more success and growth in the future.

WINTER GUARD CLINICS this week!
We hope you are as excited as we are for our guest clinician and for the start of Winter Guard season!
- Clinics will take place at Dahlstrom MS.
- Attendance at this week's clinic is mandatory for all students planning on continuing guard next semester.
- Attendance will be taken for a grade.
- Students currently enrolled but not continuing guard next semester are not required to attend and will be given a different project for their grade.
Transportation is not provided:
- Those students that drive are welcome to transport themselves to DMS.
- Please keep in mind that State law mandates that student drivers age 18 & younger can only transport one other person at a time, unless they are related.
- If your student needs transportation to DMS and you prefer they be driven by an adult, please let Michelle Silva or Ida Musgrove know. You can contact them via GroupMe direct message or email. We will have several parents at JHS to transport students that need a ride.
- If your student plans on getting a ride to DMS, please have a conversation with them about with who you are willing to give them permission to ride.
Proper attire:
- Students must wear all black, form-fitting clothing and athletic sneakers. Please, no loose clothing as our clinician will be working on dance techniques and form-fitting clothing allows directors to better see body movement and dance lines.
- Don't forget a water bottle!
