A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
I hope you are enjoying this MARVELOUS weather! It was a jammed packed short week full of sports wins, fine arts competitions, Pajamas and Spirit Advisory competitions, our first pep rally, amazing classroom happenings, and finally a much needed three day weekend!
Thanks for speaking to your Longhorns about behavior expectations and helping us get back to what really matters....learning and safety! A few of our rock star Longhorn parents reached out to let me know about other TIK TOK "monthly" challenges, specifically one that involves assaulting an adult-I cannot make this stuff up. So again, I strongly encourage you to research them (it's truly unbelievable) as I cannot even fathom doing these things, nor do I find them even remotely funny, so consequences are real. We appreciate you KEEPING this conversation going and reinforcing that good choices and character matter and I promise to do the same on morning announcements each day.
OPEN HOUSE IS TOMORROW - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM 6:30-8:00pm. (see the schedule below)
WEDNESDAY'S Spirit Day is all about going WILD AND OUT (by wearing animal or safari print) as we take on the Travis Tigers on FRIDAY for the BLACK OUT HOME GAME! Which 4th period advisory will win the Friday Prize by dressing up and WEARING YOUR ID? This week's winners enjoyed Pancakes - Congrats to our 4th period Trainers, Mr. Mitchell's Class and Mrs. Schroeder's class on their WIN this past week!
The front office is open Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

TIPS:
- Parents please print or screen shot your student's schedule, as you will be reporting to each classroom on their schedule for a short overview of the syllabus, course/teacher expectations, and contact info.
- All GRHS staff will be in the hallways and have on maroon "The Maroon Track" shirts, so if you need assistance on where to go we are here to point you in the right direction, all you have to do is ask!
- Enter through the front doors...you can't miss it, Big George and many of our our GRHS Seniors will be welcoming you to the Ranch!
- This classroom rotation will move very quickly (about 10 min per class), so if you need to meet with a teacher for a conference regarding your student, I ask that you email them to set up a time at a later date. This cannot happen during Open House, as this pulls them away from meeting and greeting all the other parents which is the sole purpose of this event.
- Our PTO (table by library) and the ABC (spirit wear trailer out front) will be set up for you to shop that night too.

The GR JV team played a very competitive Memorial team and got in a lot of great tennis! Outstanding matches were seen across the courts and we are excited for the growth and gains we are seeing amongst our players! Next up is Clements!!
Football Game Senior Night!
The Freshman A Longhorns dropped a game that was a lot closer than the score makes it seem. The Longhorns were down 6-0 at halftime to the Elkins Knights. The Knights were able to make more big plays than the Longhorns and pulled away at the end winning 30-7. Our defensive standout was Jael Ortiz who made tackle after tackle. The Longhorn's lone touchdown came on a deep pass from Melvin Youngblood to Aidan Creech who made the catch with an injured hand and two Knights hanging off of him.
The Freshman B Longhorns played some outstanding defense to hold the Lions to 14 points. The defensive standouts were Josh Richardson and Christian Lee.
GRHS VS ELKINS
The JV Black football team traveled to Elkins HS Thursday night. The Longhorns offense led by Keene Farrow, Matthew Villarreal, and Malachi Montgomery moved the ball effectively enough to give the team a chance to win the game. The Horns defense stepped up big scoring on a huge scoop and score by Kurveon McNeill at the end of the 2nd quarter. The offense tacked on another score late making the final 13-6 Longhorns.
The JV Maroon Longhorns took on Randle High School Thursday night, losing 41-7. Julius Carter (TD) and Bryce Odum played well on offense. Defensively, the Longhorns battled against a explosive Lions offense. The Horns will play Travis next week as they move forward in the district season.
The Longhorns took on the Elkins Knights to open up district play Friday Night. They came away with a hard fought 35-14 victory. Hymond Drinkard, Joseph Wilson, and Jaden Shelton paced the offense to keep the chains moving and helped add a couple of scores on the night. Defensively Judson Mixon stood out filling run lanes while keeping the Knights run game at bay. Tim Fisher made the play of the game, taking a fake punt to house to add to the Longhorns output on the night.
Baseball and Softball!
Senior pitcher Beau Beaty won this week’s George Ranch Baseball Offseason Player of the Week award as he continues to work hard on and off the field. Beau has been leading by example and pushes those around him to become better players and teammates. Congratulations, Beau!”
