Happy Friday
The biggest question I keep getting is "When will my schedule be ready?". The goal is Monday. Currently the final touches are being completed and proofreading will happen Monday. I will communicate with all when it is ready to go!
I hope you all are staying healthy!
Do you have a freshmen coming to AHS? Cats Crew is here to assist!
Thanks to teacher volunteers the Class of 2024 got welcomed with yard signs! The new Cougar looks fierce.
Worried about day one?
Day one:
9:00 am to 9:30 am students will need to log onto Canvas and join their advisory course for a live (synchronous) class. This class will be fully designed around helping students know how to navigate their day. We will be discussing how to read their schedules, how to know when to virtually attend class meetings at specific times and how to know when they are able to work on assignments on their own timeline.
9:30 am to 2:30 pm school activities are available to all students in an on demand format (asynchronous). Each of your child's 7 courses will be accessible. Students will have some live (synchronous) time with their specific teachers throughout the day. They will have mapped that out with their advisory teacher and will have created a grid for the day allowing them to ensure they don't miss time expectations and feel confident in how the day plays out.
2:30 pm to 3:00 pm Guided Study live (synchronous). Students will be back in a live session with their advisory teacher. This will allow us to check in with them on how the day went, any conflicts in their synchronous time, and any questions about what is expected of asynchronous time. Essentially we have built into every day a check in to start the day and a check out with students at the end of the day. Our goal is to address questions and to fix problems in real time rather than waiting for students to realize they have an issue.
This will be the general format of every virtual day at AHS. While in advisory the students will experience success readiness training. The format will be social and emotional learning lessons (grit, stress management, organization skills, etc.), college and career readiness (career exploration, review of ICAPs, college selections and deadlines, military awareness and deadlines, trade opportunities, etc.), and team building. The advisories are small groups that will work to develop a family like atmosphere.
Advisories are in place because we heard loud and clear that you need access to teachers, to get assistance in all courses and not have to navigate 7 different teachers but to have one advocate for your student, and to ensure the success readiness assistance is still a priority for our students as it has been in the past. We heard you and we are working to deliver!
BUT how will my student find Canvas in the first place?
Device Pick up and material returns Monday, 8/17, from 3-6
If you have a returning high school student who has not turned in their books or other school property from the 2019-2020 school year you may drop those items off as well. Please have your student place the items in a bag with their name either on or in it. As we approach the start of the new year getting text books back so students taking those courses this year is key!
