Guidance & Counseling Department
April 2024
March Wrap Up!
With April around the corner, STAAR testing is soon to follow. The counselors and CIS loved connecting with our parents with out Coffee with the Counselors and CIS event last month where we shared information on connected topics. We talked about the importance of attendance to ensure all of our Lil' Huskies feel prepared for their exams and are learning all they can. We also talked about the importance of acknowledging emotions and regulating them when our Lil' Huskies feel nervous, scared, mad, sad, happy, etc. We built "Calming Corner Kits" where every parent got to build their own calming corner with sensory toys, fidgets, and posters with grounding techniques like breathing, a wheel of choices, and an emotions charts.
We hope you can join us for our next CWC and CIS on May 23rd at 7:15 a.m. Wishing you a great start to April!
Military Pride Club
The Military Pride Club members focused on building community with one another this month. They were so excited to sit together as an organization and bond while being with friends! They talked, played an ice breaker game, and some board games!
Purple Up for Military Pride Month!
Join us in recognizing military students and their families by dressing up with the following theme days in April. Thank you!

Book: Whose Hat Is This? by Sharon Katz Cooper
Students were able to discuss the topic of careers, future goals, and planning. We reviewed the different types of job options in the future, and common career clusters. Students identified many hats worn by service related workers. The book gave interesting facts about each hat and described a brief history of hats. Students understood that some workers wear special hats to help them do their jobs. Students were able to draw and decorate themselves as what they want to be in the future. This topic will continue to be discussed through April!
Book: Weird Series by Erin Frankel
Students read the book Weird by Erin Frankel, the story helped build their social skills to address and prevent bullying. It also helped students to recognize their own power to stop bullying. Students then completed a Positive Affirmation Circle Art, which they wrote positive words that described themselves
Topic: Kelso's Wheel of Choices
Students in grades 1st & 2nd reviewed Kelso’s Choices. Students were able to engage in effective problem solving and recognizing if it was a BIG or SMALL problem. Small problems students were able to utilize Kelso’s Choices to solve them. Big problems students would seek help from a trusted adult.
Topic: Hygiene for Personal Health and Safety
Students in 3rd grade and above reviewed the importance of personal health and safety. Students were able to identify the importance of keeping clean including washing our hands every time we use the bathroom or eat, bathing daily, wearing deodorant, washing our clothes, and brushing plus flossing our teeth.
