Moving Forward to a New GLHS

January 2025
An Update for Current and Rising GLHS Families
One Year and Counting!
In less than a year, our students and staff will be teaching and learning in our new Gahanna Lincoln High School. Our new high school is set to open for students in January of 2026 and this communication is to let you know of our plans for a seamless transition into the new building.

GLHS 2025-26 Calendar Change
The current GLHS will operate as normal until December 19, 2025, which is the final day before winter break and the final day for classes in the old building. During the first semester, staff will work to pack up their classrooms in anticipation of the move during winter break. Between December 20, 2025 and January 4, 2026, there will be no access to either the current or new buildings as our movers will be spending that time transporting all necessary items to the new building. Our moving team is expected to complete work by January 4, 2026.
Our staff’s first days in the new building will be January 5 and 6. These days will involve unpacking and meetings to familiarize our staff with the new space. GLHS students will not have school either of these two days.
On January 7-8, there will be an orientation period for students to get acquainted with the new building.
STUDENTS WILL ONLY ATTEND SCHOOL ON THEIR DESIGNATED ORIENTATION DAY
January 7: Seniors and sophomores will attend orientation in the new building
January 8: Freshmen and juniors will attend orientation in the new building
These schedule alterations do not impact other students in the District who do not attend GLHS. The changes to early January 2026 are the only schedule changes we expect to make for next school year.
The early January 2026 schedule in the new building is as follows:
January 5-6: No school for students, meetings and unpacking for staff
January 7: School for 10th and 12th grade, no school for 9th and 11th grade
January 8: School for 9th and 11th grade, no school for 10th and 12th grade
January 9: All students return to school
These changes to the calendar do not require us to extend our school year.
Parking for the 2025-26 School Year
As we transition from our current building to the new one, the site will remain active with construction. For the first semester, we will have limited availability of parking spots to offer to students. Once the new building opens and demolition begins on the old building, our parking spaces will be drastically reduced, allowing for only staff parking on main campus for the second semester.
Please know that limited spaces and parking off campus will only be temporary. We are excited that once the entire construction and demolition project is completed, we will have more parking than ever before.
Lunches Starting in January 2026
Once we open the new building, we will have enough space for all our GLHS students to eat meals on campus. At that time, students will no longer be permitted to leave the grounds for lunch, and GLHS will only offer “closed lunches”.
We are happy to make this shift to our daily schedule so that our students remain in our care for the duration of the day. In addition to students no longer needing to leave the building to go to Clark Hall, closed lunches will continue to limit our interruptions to the school day, both in and out of the building.
Completing the Construction Process
While we move students into the new building to begin the 2026 calendar year, some construction will still be underway. Our auditorium is expected to be completed by the end of January 2026, as that is the final stage of the construction process on the new building.
That being said, the grounds will continue to be an active construction site. Once we are all moved into the new building, we will begin the demolition process on the current GLHS. The abatement will start in January and the demolition will complete over the summer of 2026. Final paving, curbs and landscaping will be completed throughout the remainder of 2026.
Save the Date
Please save the date of January 10, 2026 as a day to celebrate the closing of our current high school and the official ribbon cutting for our new space. Keep an eye on upcoming District communications to learn more about our plans.
