GOODNOE GAZETTE
September 27, 2024
Dear Goodnoe Families,
We had another great week at GES! It is hard to believe October is almost here. Some families have shared that they are not able to open some links included in the newsletter. Please try clicking on the "Goodnoe Gazette" at the very top of the newsletter where the date is listed. This should allow you to open all links within the newsletter.
For your planning purposes, our Halloween parade will be held on October 31st at 9:45 a.m. The parade and parties will be held in the morning to create a calm afternoon and dismissal. More information will be shared next week.
As previously shared, Ms. Kris Topley's (school librarian), last day for the school year is next Monday. Ms. Topley will be serving as an elementary Technology Integration Specialist in the district for this year. We wish Ms. Topley the best of luck in her role! We welcome Mrs. Karen Briskin as our librarian this year. Mrs. Briskin will begin in her new role next Monday to transition with Ms. Topley. Please see a note from Mrs. Briskin below.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth
A NOTE FROM OUR NEW LIBRARIAN - MRS. BRISKIN
Dear Goodnoe Families,
I am excited to be joining the Goodnoe family as your new librarian! My name is Karen Briskin. I moved to Bucks County from Los Angeles six years ago, with my husband and two children. My older son is a junior at the University of Oregon and my younger son is a senior at CR North. I worked as an elementary teacher in California, New York, and Pennsylvania for more than 25 years and most recently worked as an Instructional Assistant in the New Hope - Solebury School District. I am looking forward to getting to know the students, supplementing their learning, and getting involved in activities at the school and in the district.
Sincerely,

GOODNOE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S 2024-2025 MATH CHALLENGE
Goodnoe Elementary will be participating in Math in Action's Math Challenge again this year. The first challenge is set to be released on Friday, September 13. All students in grades K to 6 are invited to participate in this bi-weekly math problem solving activity. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved and enjoy math through fun and engaging math problems. Parents are encouraged to get involved in discussing and solving the problems. Please submit solutions and student work to each Math Challenge by the Wednesday due date listed. Click the link for more information about how to participate https://www.mathinaction.org/goodnoe-elementary.html. Mrs. Gudusky will keep track of student submissions throughout the year. Students who submit entries on time are awarded a star on the bulletin board, and there will be prize drawings throughout the year. Recognition will be given at the end of the school year for those who regularly participate. More importantly, students' problem-solving abilities will grow! Questions? Please contact Mrs. Gudusky, Goodnoe Elementary math specialist, at kristin.sink@crsd.org.

CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY
This is a reminder that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.
Excerpt from CRSD/GES Parent Handbook
The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.
Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost, stolen or broken.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBIS)
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Earlier this week your child brought home a paper copy of the matrix and voice level chart. Please take some time to review the papers with your child. The copies are for you to keep and refer to at home. There is a half sheet of paper for you and your child to sign and return to your child's homeroom teacher. Thank you for your support!
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children are afraid of animals or have pet allergies; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 105.3 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=AQ5KYB538D2B
