Yayoi Kusama & Ms. Adamczyk😉
To learn more about Yayoi Kusama with your artist, watch the story "Yayoi Kusama, From Here to Infinity".
Kindergarten Kandinsky Inspired Art
Red, yellow, and blue are primary colors. To learn what colors primary colors make when mixed together, sing "The Color Song" with your artist.
Fifth Grade Dragon Eye Sculpture
Fifth grade worked very hard to create a variety of textures in their artwork. Texture is the way something feels or the way it looks like it feels (implied texture). Can you describe the textures you see in this sculpture with your artist?
Welcome to art class!
My name is Ms. Adamczyk and I am the art teacher at NES. It has been exciting to have your amazing artists in class throughout this first month of school! We have been practicing classroom procedures and how to use art materials safely and with respect as we jumped into our first art projects:
Kindergarten created Kandinsky inspired lines with black glue and watercolor.
First grade is working on Yayoi Kusama inspired 3-D clay pumpkins.
Second grade learned about Picasso as they developed their own self-portraits using oil pastels.
Third grade had an introduction to clay hand-building and artist James DeRosso as they sculpted crazy clay monsters.
Fourth grade worked very hard creating radial designs as their introduction to printmaking.
Fifth grade continued to refine clay hand-building techniques as they sculpted dragon eyes.
Student artwork will be sent home later this semester as most of it takes two weeks of art classes to complete or the work may be on display throughout the school. I am very proud of our artists and I look forward to a wonderful year of critical thinking, creativity, and growing!

Health & P.E.
In Health & PE, we have been learning about expectations and how to play and stay safe. In Health class, Ms.Cooper is currently teaching about belonging to a group of people such as family and friends and the importance of keeping your family and friends healthy. We’ve also discussed how to deal with strong feelings and stress and how to respectfully communicate to peers, teachers, and family members. In PE, Coach Stancil has been working on locomotor skills and how to incorporate coordination skills and cardiovascular endurance. With both classes combined, we have been working on fitness gram testing. This year our department has a new system they are using to collect data from these test results called FIT Georgia. A lot of changes have been occurring for Health & PE, and Ms.Cooper and Coach Stancil are super excited to be collaborating more this year!
STEM
This rotation in STEM...
We have been learning all about engineering and the design thinking process! Simply put, engineers are people who solve problems by asking questions! Students also participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census during the week of August 19-23. This citizen science project is hosted by the UGA Extension office and takes place each year in August!
