From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
We have some exciting events coming up in the next few weeks. See below for important reminders and details!
Have a wonderful weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan
Birthdays - all of our teachers celebrate students' birthdays in the classroom and students are welcome to bring in something to share with the class in celebration. However, food items cannot be brought and shared at school. Any food items sent to school will be sent back home. Some alternative suggestions are: birthday pencils, stickers, small goody bags for classmates.
Halloween - Just like birthdays, we cannot have students bring in food items or candy to be passed out at school. Any food items sent to school will be sent back home. Halloween is a regular school day. FTC will host a fall party the Thursday before fall break as an inclusive celebration for all. Halloween does fall during Red Ribbon Week, the last week of October. Our spirit day theme for 10/31 will allow students to wear school appropriate costumes if they so choose! But please remember that it is a regular school day and students will be playing outside at recess, attending PE, and should be able to take on and off their costumes independently to use the restroom. Please keep that in mind when determining their attire for the day!
Red Ribbon Week - is next week! (10/28-11/1) The national Red Ribbon Campaign encourages kids to stand up against drugs, violence, and bullying and encourages a healthy lifestyle! At the primary level, we place most of our emphasis on spreading kindness and being bully free! Please the the flyer below for our spirit week themes (Swartz school is also using the same themes!). Just a reminder that we do have a costume theme on 10/31, but please adhere to the following guidelines: No wigs/masks/make-up, costumes should be such that students can use the bathroom independently and participate in recess and PE class with ease, no fake weapons, and no detachable accessories that may get lost or left behind. Thank you!
Veteran's Day - Veteran's day is right around the corner on Monday November 11th. This is a regular school day for our district. We love to highlight this day in a meaningful way for our students. Throughout the day, they will learn the history of Veteran's Day, create cards for Vets and we have a guest speaker/Veteran coming to share about the different branches of the military. We also love to honor the Veteran's of our Salt Creek community. We always create a Veteran display in the front entrance of the school complete with pictures and captions of Veteran's from our Salt Creek families. If you have a Veteran in your family you would like to be included, please submit their picture and information to this FORM to be displayed. If you previously submitted a Veteran, we already have their picture and information and will proudly display it once again!
Referendum - The district school board is proposing a referendum on fall ballot. Community members can vote on this referendum on November 5th along with the general election. For more information on "The Safe Schools, Secure Futures" plan, please visit the referendum information site at: https://sites.google.com/saltcreek48.org/safeschoolssecurefutures/home

HEALTH OFFICE NEWS
There has been an increase in Pertussis (also known as whooping cough) nationally and locally. Pertussis is a very serious respiratory infection. Symptoms occur in three stages and typically appear 4 to 21 days after exposure. Stage 1: cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, mild fever, and cough) Stage 2: uncontrolled coughing followed by a whooping noise when breathing in air. This stage may last several weeks. Stage 3: Cough slowly disappears over several weeks. Pertussis requires antibiotic treatment. Please contact your healthcare provider should you or your child experience any of these symptoms. The best prevention is vaccination. Cases of Pertussis should be reported to your school's health office. Please see links below for more information.

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
