Principal's Corner
Thank you, Mustangs, for a great start to the school year. Our Book Blast event brought in just under $20, 000 worth of contributions. This means each student at Miles in grades preschool through eighth grade will receive a minimum of three books, whether the student participated or not. For those who completed their treasure map, those students will receive ten books!! These are books to go home for your home library. Thank you for the support.
I'm excited for you to 'meet' the many new faces at Miles introduced in this newsletter. Check them out below and say hi when you see them on campus.

Garden News
It was a beautiful first garden work day! Twelve families sealed and painted garden features, and cleaned up the whole front of the school. THANK YOU volunteers!
The next volunteer day is Saturday, Sept. 23.
Let's Meet Our New Staff!
Grace Godoy- School Community Liaison
Hi Miles! I am Grace, the new school community liaison, and I am super excited to be joining the Miles community, I hold this school near and dear to my heart as I used to be a student here! I am excited to meet you all and am looking forward to the rest of the year! I like to spend my free time with my husband and our daughter playing games and going swimming.
Kelsay Knutson- Middle School Resource Teacher
Hello! My name is Kelsay Knutson. This is my 9th year in education. The previous 8 have been at the elementary level as both a classroom and resource teacher. I look forward making the jump to middle school and being a part of the Miles community!
Laura Namerow- Art Teacher
Hi!
My name is Laura Namerow and I am so honored to be the art teacher at Miles! I have been enjoying getting to know all my artists and I'm looking forward to an exciting year of making art!
Patrick Kelly- Middle School Social Studies Teacher
Hello! So happy to be a part of the Miles community. I am born and raised in Tucson and have Bachelor of Fine Arts from the UA. In addition to my love for teaching, I enjoy hiking, camping, and drawing landscapes.
Elias Kotzambasis- GATE Teacher
I am in my 20th year with TUSD, 1st year as GATE Itinerant Teacher. Love to travel and learn about the world!!
Arnie Ventura- Interpreter Room 5
I am an interpreter new to Miles ELC. I am originally from Bullhead City Arizona. In my free time, I enjoy being active, making music, and making smiles.
Sheree Kloetzel- Room 5 Teacher
Hi I'm Sheree and I'm in room 5 teaching grades 3-5 ! I am an animal lover and I have many rescued pets. Football is my favorite sport to watch. I have 4 children and three grandchildren. I'm lucky to be at Miles Elementary for my 40th year of teaching!
Monica Granillo- Response to Intervention
I am Monica Granillo and I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. I attended the University of Arizona for three different degrees and am forever a Wildcat! I attended TUSD schools from kinder through 12th grade and have some of my fondest childhood memories with my elementary school teachers. I have come to love teaching and learning about how kids learn math and I hope to use this knowledge to provide the best support I can for our students here at Miles as they learn more and more math. I am so proud to be part of the Miles Mustangs family!
Kiernan Monasmith- Interpreter Middle School
I'm Kiernan, I'm an ASL interpreter. I'm from Texas but have been in Arizona for a while. For fun I love to read and spend time with my wife and pets. I have two cats, Scout, and Atlas and one dog named Jack.
Nancy Belot- English Language Development

We are Tucson natives. We attended and graduated from T.U.S.D. schools.
We've been married for 38 years, raised three daughters and have five grandchildren.
We enjoy spending time with our family, gardening and arts and crafts.
