OHS Health Office
As a reminder from Nurse Dani, students are NOT allowed to carry medication with them. Please fill out forms on PowerSchool if you would like your student to have Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen or Tums in school. When you log on to PowerSchool, go to forms and check off the boxes if you would like your child to receive any of these medications when in need.
Please be aware that these medications may only be administered if the forms are completed on PowerSchool. Verbal permission is not accepted.
CT State law requires that all students in 10th grade have a physical assessment. This assessment serves to document adequate immunizations and any health issues that may impact your child while they attend school. The physical exam must be dated after January 01, 2024. The front of the HAR form must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian. The second page must have all *asterisks areas completed.
As a friendly reminder your child must be fever free (without medication) and has not vomited within 24 hours before returning to school.
Does your child need to leave school early?
If your child needs to be dismissed early, please send them to school with a handwritten note. Upon arrival, your child should bring the note to the office to receive a dismissal pass.
Please note we cannot accept emails or phone calls for early dismissals.
If a note is not provided, parents or guardians must come to the school in person with a valid driver’s license to sign their child out.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a smooth and secure dismissal process.

Social Work Spotlight:
As we navigate the month of January, get back into daily academic routines and extra-curricular activities, and with midterms beginning, teens can feel an overwhelming sense of stress. Stress is a physical reaction to a person’s emotions. Sometimes feeling stressed can produce positive outcomes, such as motivating teens to complete work or study for midterms. When the stress feels too much, teens can experience negative physical and/or mental health symptoms. Teens may experience sleep disturbances, stomach aches, an increase in anxiety, social withdrawal, and possible substance use. Stress Management is an important life skill for both teens and adults to learn. Knowing how to navigate stressful situations will help improve mood, overall physical health, and research has shown can even boost your immune system. In addition, effectively managing stressful situations allows us to be more productive. Stress management is not a one size fits all approach. Rather, it's helpful to try a few strategies to find what works. Below please find some tips to help teens navigate academic stress, as well as an article that provides information on how parents/guardians can teach teens Stress Management.
https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/stress.html
Make to do lists- visualizing what you have to do can reduce stress.
Budget your time- plan out your day by chunking time down.
Create a rewards system- reward yourself once you have completed a task or part of a task.
Ask for help and move on-reach out and then shift your focus to something that feels doable.
Take breaks to breath- close your eyes for a few minutes, breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Eat healthy-focus on foods that promote good health.
Get more restful sleep, especially if you can’t get more sleep-limit screens before bed.
Exercise- try to move for 20-30 minutes a few times per week.
Set aside days to relax-try to set aside a day or half day to recharge without any expectations.
Seek help when necessary- reach out to school support staff for resources.
