Greetings CHS Parents and Caregivers
Hitting the Ground Running!
The first month of school has been filled with new learning experiences! Our staff and students have been enjoying taking on new challenges and utilizing our resources to the fullest to make for a great start to the year.
Experiential Learning.
CHS has implemented its Wednesday Experiential Learning days! Students were given various learning opportunity options ranging from food jarring to wood working. It is important to know that our Wednesdays are required school days where students can learn skills that can by applied throughout their lives. These courses are also credit bearing so it is important that your student attends regularly.
Preschool Play in the Wild
Students visited Minneopa State Park for our Preschoolers in the Wild Course. Students will use resources found in nature to develop learning stations that will be presented to preschoolers later this year.
Food Preservation and Jarring
In our Food Preservation and Jarring course, students learned how to make and jar homemade salsa. Students shared their work with students, staff, and families.
Strategic Board Gaming
Our Strategic Board Gaming course provides students an opportunity to use strategy, teamwork, and problem solving to compete in various complex board games. It has been amazing to watch them communicate face to face in challenging and competitive situations.
Woodworking
Students work with Assistant Director of Facilities, Jason Hiniker, to develop plans for raised garden beds to be placed outside of Lincoln Community Center.
Industry Tours
In our Industry Tours course, students visit various industries in the local area to learn about different career options. This will eventually allow for students to have an opportunity to intern at these sites.
Postsecondary Opportunities
In partnership with South Central College, students have the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. Students can select specific courses relating to a program such as welding, automotive, and healthcare as well as general education courses (English, math, science). Have your student contact our counselor, Janell Sipe, for more information.
