Letter from Mrs. Anderson
Dear Bobcat Families:
It was a busy August, and we are looking forward to a productive Quarter 1 to start the school year! We can’t wait to celebrate our Bobcats of the Month for showing the character trait of Responsibility. Students completed the reading portion of the Progress Monitoring Test, i-Ready Diagnostic testing, and we are almost finished with our Math Progress Monitoring.
With the start of September finally here, we approach our first SAC (School Advisory Council) meeting of the school year. Please consider joining us on September 19th @ 7:30 am in the media center. We will be discussing school data, our school wide goals and initiatives, as well as exciting events we hope to have on our campus throughout this school year.
Finally, thank you for your patience with car line, bus transportation, and student walkers. The safety of our students is our number one priority. We have had heat advisories and rainy-day dismissals to work through in these first three weeks, and all of our families have been so understanding. As a reminder, students who are dropped off prior to 7:25 will be unsupervised, as school does not start until 7:25.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Please stay tuned for information regarding our upcoming curriculum night.
In partnership,
Mrs. Anderson, Principal
Attendance Matters
September is Attendance Awareness Month! Attendance is important to academic success, and we will work with all our families to help our students achieve their highest potential. We understand that there are reasons that students will need to miss school and we stress that communication with the school is key in working through attendance issues.
School Student Hours:
Doors Open 7:25
Tardy: 8:00
Dismissal: 2:55
Drop off is prohibited before 7:25am and students must be picked up by 3:10pm.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ABSENCES?
Excused absences
An illness of the student documented by a doctor’s statement or a documented medical/dental appointment. An observance of an established religious holiday or for pre-arranged religious instruction as defined in Board Policy 5223. A court subpoena, a required court appearance, or placement in detention at a juvenile center in which the student continues his/her education.
Validated absences
Brief illness, appointments, and family business are considered validated absences for purposes of meeting attendance policy requirements. Absences must be documented by written notes from parents upon your child returning to school or calling the school office at (239) 377-9200. Validated absences are not excused absences.
Unexcused absences
Absences that the school does not receive notification from parent/guardian. Children who are habitually absent will be reported to the CCPS Attendance Officer. Accruing excessive unexcused and/or validated absences will cause a student to be designated “habitually truant” and will result in a referral for the student to Truancy Court.
What You Can Do to Help:
· Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
· Pack backpack the night before.
· Don’t let your child stay home unless they are sick.
· Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
We Need Your Help
Emergency Forms/Procedures for completion: Immediate attention needed. Please complete your child’s Emergency Card information online in the parent portal. Paper copies will be sent home this week as well. New for this year: parents must complete the media center acknowledgement form in order for their child to check out books from the media center. All papers will be returned to your child’s teacher.
Student ID and Lanyard
All students will be issued and are required to wear a school ID and lanyard while at school. This is part of our school dress code. Students will use badges to sign on to their bus, check out library books, and go through the lunch line. Lost badges may be replaced in the front office for $2.00 cash.
