The Weekly Bulli-tin
TERM 4 - Week 7
Principal's Report
Activities
This past week has seen a number of exciting initiatives and events including:
an excursion to Armidale for our Aboriginal and Aboriginal Studies students. Thanks to Julie Street-Smith for her attendance and support to make this a truly enriching experience. Students have told me that the opportunities to connect with culture and with each other were moving and impactful. I am looking forward to hearing Theo's podcast interviews. A huge thanks must be extended to Leanne Hicks for her initiative in the organisation of this life-changing excursion.
- a camp for Black Diamond students. With beautiful weather, the staff reported how well the students participated in all activities.
- the Duke of Edinburgh bronze hike. With a huge number of students completing this, they have informed me of the fun and memories made.
Gift Giving
The SRC have organised a gift-giving initiative to help brighten the Christmas season for young people in less fortunate circumstances. I encourage you to purchase a gift and leave it under the Christmas tree in the front office.
The student leaders are also planning Festive Friday in week 9 to celebrate the upcoming festive season with candy canes and carols.
Orientation Day
It was lovely to meet some year 6 students yesterday who were involved in our Combat Robotics program. I look forward to seeing them again on Tuesday, along with our year 7 class of 2025!

Acknowledgement of Country
We would like to acknowledge country and the traditional custodians of this land who are the Wodi Wodi people of the Five Islands Dreaming, Dharawal Country and the Yuin nation.
We would like to acknowledge the country on which we meet and gather, near Sandon Point, the declared Aboriginal land rich in Aboriginal history and culture.
We thank the ancestors and Elders for passing down their knowledge of country and traditions which is the reason that Aboriginal culture thrives today.
At Bulli High School, it is our responsibility to preserve and respect the integrity of this significant site for future generations.

CONGRATULATIONS to Emma Dillon and Katherine Martin for their nomination and SELECTION for the Artexpress showcase exhibition. This is a massive achievement, from 8000 students across the state, around 450 achieve nomination and 240 are selected for exhibition.
SRC Giving Tree
Students, parents and community members are encouraged to marvel at our Christmas tree in the front foyer and grab a paper ornament off the tree and purchase a gift for the age and gender listed on the back.
Let's make Christmas special for all in our community!
MoMENtum
MoMENtum is a collaborative wellbeing program with Wollongong Youth Services, designed to promote student’s positive values, healthy relationships, help seeking behaviour and resilience that supports positive school engagements and positive communication. This week we worked with Talk2mebro, and students discussed the importance of seeking support and overcoming challenge together. Year 8 Adviser, Mrs Haines also stepped in and committed to the ice bucket challenge.
Wellbeing
Stymie
We are proud to provide Stymie as a tool to support our students and parents
If you see something that's just not right #saysomething. You don't have to know or even like someone to help them if they are experiencing harm. It's just the right and humane thing to do.
The Hub
We continue to provide additional support for all students with their learning. Students can access The Hub for additional HSC study skills support, through to help with Year 7 homework.
School Student Travel
Exchange Student
Student exchange organisation, World Education Program (WEP) is currently looking for a family from the Bulli High School community to volunteer to host our French exchange student from November this year! C. from France attends Bulli High School.
By hosting an exchange student, you're not only providing them with a place to stay; you're welcoming them into your family, sharing cultural experiences, and building lifelong connections. You will experience Bulli through the eyes of an overseas visitor, re-discovering your own backyard in the process!
If you would like more information and to view C’s student’s profile, please contact Donna from WEP at donnalack@wep.org.au or on 03 9598 4733.
Multiverse
Surf Board Design Contest
A massive shoutout to all our participants! This year’s contest was a huge success, with all 75 spots filling up in record time. Your creativity, dedication, and talent blew our judges away—thank you to every student and faculty member who made this year’s competition unforgettable!
A special congratulations to Bulli High Students who were awarded with 5 of the overall 10 prizes, including Jett Blue who was one of two overall winners from all NSW High Schools that participated in this competition.
Jett’s surfboard design was outstanding! His detailed write-up, thorough process breakdown, and innovative approach truly set him apart—earning him the well-deserved top spot in the board design category.
"The inspiration for my 1980's style surfboard comes from the vibrant, unapologetic creativity that defined the eras surf culture. Boards from the 80's were more than just tools for riding waves, they were statements." -Jett Blue
Bulli High Surf Academy Magazine
Bulli High is proud to launch our surf magazine Barrells, a 96 page glossy, at Multiverse Day on 2 December.
As a limited edition print run of only 100 copies, the magazine will be on sale at our Surfers’ Alumni Reunion on 12 December for $35 each. There are approximately 40 copies yet to be pre-ordered. An additional print run can be organised depending on demand.
The magazine was a tireless labour of love for BHS parents Megan Rowe (ARE Media) and Justin Worsley, with additional work by Finlay Smart (daughter of senior teacher, Mrs Brooke Smart) as sub-editor. Four current students contributed articles along with Steve Davis and legendary ex-coach Ms Wendy Kon. Standby for a great article about Sandon Point Boardriders and an interview with Christian De Clouett from Scarborough Boardriders.
Photographic contributions were made by a range of students and our very own principal Mrs Denise James, who is an excellent photographer in her own right.
We thank our sponsors among the parents who made this venture possible including Ms Petra Delaney at Steel City Surf Classic, See Side Optical, Black Diamond Speech Pathology, Bec Ninness at Astute Finance, Thirroul Pharmacy, Ms Renee Moston at Exclusive Stainless Products, and our esteemed ex-student, Mr Kane Organ.
We are honoured to have the world-class photography of our ex-student Ray Collins in our magazine, a man who refused to accept payment for his work. Ray is a total gentleman.
The magazine becomes a NSW statewide project next year to talent-identify future journalists, graphic designers and photographers in public schools.
We are proud to announce the end of our year-long project to identify both historic surfing BHS champions on a commemorative gold-leafed board and highlight the 126 surfers who have represented our school since 1978.
We welcome you all back with open arms for our reunion at Bulli High on Thursday, 12 December (3.15pm to 5.00pm) where we will unveil the commemorative surfboard made by Jason Gava and family.
All preorders for the magazine can be reserved by contacting David at: multiversebhs@gmail.com
Bulli High Surfers Reunion
All past and present Bulli High surfers are reminded that we welcome you back to school on Thursday, 12 December between 3.30pm and 5.00pm to celebrate your contribution to the School.
We are staging a brief reunion for our alumni surfers and the unveiling of the much-awaited commemorative gold-leafed surfboard.
There will be a couple of short speeches at 4pm and the sale of our very own surf magazine, Barrells — a professional publication made with ARE Media on sale for $35. You might find your name in there!
All enquires to David at multiverse@gmail.com
