A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
I hope you all had a joyful holiday season spent with loved ones and moments of peace. As we step into 2025, we look forward to an enriching and successful second half of the school year filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences. The beginning of the new year brings fresh opportunities to reflect on the significant progress we have made, set new ambitious goals, and continue to work together to help each of our learners achieve great things.
We have missed our learners tremendously and are excited to welcome them back to school on Monday, Jan. 6. We will spend some time reestablishing routines, procedures, and expectations during our first days back and also return to the important work of learning and growing. As we embark on this next phase of the school year, we encourage all students to come back with a renewed sense of curiosity, enthusiasm, discipline, and determination. We know they can do it, because Riverview students can do anything!
Please keep encouraging your child to do their best in all they do, to treat others with kindness and respect, and to make choices that lead to safety and learning for everyone. We have high expectations at Riverview because we know our learners are capable of meeting high standards. We appreciate your support and partnership and invite you to reach out to us anytime if we can be helpful.
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

Talk to Your Child About Hurtful Online Conversations/Monitor Phone Usage
From Principal, Shawn Peck:
I wanted to bring to your attention that we have heard reports of some hurtful exchanges occurring on cell phones, through messaging apps, and away from school. This has included name-calling, insults, and other negative comments. We wanted to make you all aware of this and kindly ask that you speak with your child about this kind of behavior and language. Remind them that the old adage that “if you don’t have anything nice to say, it is best to just say nothing at all” applies to digital communication as well. Remind them that even if someone else is behaving inappropriately, it does not give permission for them to do so. Additionally, we request that if your child has a personal device that you are monitoring its use and staying informed on who they are talking to and what is being said. Please remember that our school policy states that any personal device that comes to school must be powered down and in the students locker for the duration of the school day. We do not allow cell phone usage while at school and, to this point, all reports we have heard of inappropriate online behavior has been done away from school.
To be clear, the vast majority of our learners are making terrific choices and making a very positive impact on our school and their community. 99% of the time our learners are treating others with kindness and respect. Riverview remains a happy and joyful place. However, just a handful of hurtful words can have a significant negative impact on children who are an important part of our school community. We can not allow that to happen. We want to continue to work together with you to ensure every child who walks through our doors each day feels safe and cared for. We deeply appreciate you helping us achieve this goal.

We Need Your Help! We Are In Need of More Paraprofessional Substitutes
Our paraprofessionals are a vital part of our team and they do so much every day for our students. Like everyone, they have to miss work from time to time due to illness, family matters, etc. When that happens, it leaves our learners with less support. And unfortunately, often times these absences go "unfilled" due to a shortage of capable and willing subs. That is why we are asking for people in our Riverview community to consider being a para sub. The pay is $15 per hour and you can work as much (or as little) as you want. Whether you sub one day or every day, each time you enter a classroom, you are responsible for the helping the most important resource we have in our school -- our children.
If you would like to sign up to sub as a teacher or paraprofessional for the Farmington Schools you will have to apply through Teachers on Call (TOC). Please email or call TOC directly at 1800-713-4439 or apply online at teachersoncall.com.
Keep On Reading Every Night at Home! It Makes a HUGE Difference!
