Welcome Back!
2022-2023 School Year - “Back to Basics”
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! It is certainly an exciting time at Breckenridge Community Schools. Change is in the air as we are welcoming many new faces to the district as well as working hard to complete this summer’s bond work. Hope, excitement, I’m sure some anxiousness, but certainly a fresh new start is in store for all for this upcoming school year.
This school year, we are taking a coach’s perspective, by getting “back to basics”. So often, when a coach or leader is providing feedback for improvement, basic fundamentals are the most certainly the focus. No matter if it is a sport, music, artwork, or any other activity, fundamentals are what determine an individual's ability to be successful at their craft. At BCS, we are focused on educating, supporting, and inspiring each student to achieve personal excellence and success.
In order to meet our student needs, we have three goal areas for the upcoming year.
1. Breckenridge Community Schools are focused on creating engaging learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. Providing opportunities for students to lead, learn, and grow.
2. Breckenridge Community Schools are focused on modeling and teaching the behavior that we expect from our students. We have high expectations for behavior and pride in our school and community. We have a great community with wonderful new facilities and great staff and students. We want all students to feel safe, secure, and comfortable so they can learn and grow.
3. Breckenridge Community Schools is thankful for our families and community and they support our schools. We are planning to improve and increase the frequency in the number of educational activities to engage families and students in the work that our students do each day. Educating our students is a community effort and we want to provide our community with opportunities to support our students in the process. We thank you for your support.
As always, communication is vital to knowing what activities and events are taking place. I encourage you to add the Breckenridge Community Schools App to your phone (Search Breckenridge Community Schools on your Google Play or Apple App Store). You can also stay up to date by following our Facebook pages (District, Elementary, and MS/HS). You can also visit our school website at www.breckhuskies.org. Feel free to reach out to any of our administrative team as we are happy to assist you and your students.
The upcoming school year has great things in store for all. As we get “back to basics”, we’ll all grow and improve together. Let’s make it a great year, Huskies!
Sincerely,
Wade Slavik, Superintendent

Letter From The Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome students and families to the 2022-2023 school year! As construction comes to an end, we are excited to share with you the updates that have been made. The physical changes in our building reflect our district’s mission statement: To educate, support, and inspire each student to achieve personal excellence and success.
I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the principal for Breckenridge Elementary School. I have taught in the district for 22 years and have been a member of the Breckenridge community for more than 35 years. I feel very fortunate to be part of a school system that truly supports students and their families. In addition, the teachers, paraprofessionals, office administrative assistants, kitchen staff, custodial crew, and playground attendants represent some of the most dedicated, caring, and hardworking people I have ever met. Everyone here at Breckenridge Elementary has value and plays an important role in helping students succeed. I am so grateful to continue to work with this amazing staff.
The elementary will focus on two important goals for the upcoming school year.
The utilization of research based strategies to enhance educational practices centered on positive student learning objectives and growth.
Strengthen community engagement and parent support by enhancing relationships between parents, families, school and community.
Our open house is scheduled for August 24, from 6:00-7:00. I look forward to seeing you and your child. It is going to be a GREAT year!
Sincerely,
Gaynor McKenzie
Elementary Principal

Bond Updates
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are racing to the finish line with our summer bond projects. We have projects that have been slowed due to supply chain issues. However, we still have many updates that have been able to occur this summer.
Many classrooms have seen updated flooring, lighting, whiteboards, and projectors. Hallways have new ceilings and lighting. Our HS science classrooms have been completely updated. Several of our older restrooms have been updated as well. Our HS gym walls have a new coat of paint, new baskets, and the locker rooms have been updated. Our baseball and softball fields have updated fencing, dugouts, and batting cages. Our track and football area have also seen upgrades.
As this round of bond work continues, we will begin to look at one final round of bond work that will take place in the summer of 2023. We will have several key items that still need to be addressed as well as beginning to look at several contingency items. It has been the district's goal to be good stewards of the bond dollars that have been provided by our community. We are grateful for the community's support and we take great pride in the ability to provide our students with a great learning environment. Go Huskies!
