Youth Action Team
What:
La Center United is seeking 10 La Center Middle school and High school students who want to help positive influence among their peers and community.
Commitment:
• 2-5 hours per week for 10 weeks, (weekly 2-hour meeting, possibly additional time commitment is needed for project completion)
• Meet via zoom- (possible potential for in-person meetings contingent on COVID policy updates)
• Incentive/Motivation: $200-stipend for students who complete the 10 weeks, and fulfill requirements as defined by youth
What will they do:
• Plan 3 campaigns:
o a positive community norms campaign using core measure survey data
o LC specific find your good campaign featuring specifics from LC youth favorite things
o Parent campaign targeted specifically from youth to parents
• Offer input and guidance to LCU projects/goals
Timeline:
• March 16th: Applications are due
• March 17th: Executive Board Reviews applications and decides on youth
• March 18th: Chosen youth are notified and invited to the first meeting
• First Meeting March 24th or 25th
• Weekly Meeting March 24th- May 27th (no meetings during spring break 4/3-4/11)
About the application process:
The application process is made up of both fill-in questions and an art/graphic portion. The art/graphic can be done in any chosen medium- (drawing, painting, video, photography, graphic design, etc).

Washington Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) Accepting Applications
The Washington Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is codified in law as the official nonpartisan youth advisory body to the state legislature, and is now accepting applications for the 2021-2023 cohort.
Overseen by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Washington State Leadership Board, LYAC is composed of 22 student members from a wide variety of geographic, political, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of LYAC’s several projects include:
- Meeting with senators and representatives to advocate for policies relevant to youth priorities;
- Testifying before the state legislature in support of legislation;
- Advising government officials, policymakers, and leaders in various fields;
- Collaborating with nearly 200 community organizations to promote statewide change;
- Hosting events around the state with hundreds of youth attendees;
- Talking with media outlets such as the Associated Press, Teen Vogue, and KING-5 about student voice;
- Partnering with government agencies such as the Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Health to provide your perspective; and
- Writing, lobbying for, and passing actual laws.
LYAC members each serve a two-year term, during which they will be at the forefront of civic engagement and governmental progress. To learn more, visit walyac.org.
Applicants must:
- Be entering 9th, 10th, or 11th grade in Fall 2021
- Have consent of their parent or guardian
- Live in Washington State
