Husky E-News
October 6, 2024
From the Principal
Hillendale families,
I hope you had a great weekend! I apologize for the later than usual message this weekend as I was traveling for a wedding in Cooperstown, New York. I'm sure you were anxiously refreshing your email during the Phillies playoff game this evening awaiting the E-News!
This past Saturday, Mrs. King & Albert did a terrific job representing Hillendale at the UCF Community Fair in the Cow Milking Contest! Although Pocopson Elementary won this year, we are so proud of their teamwork and spirit! Better luck next year, huskies!
This week ahead brings our Book Fair and annual "Donuts With Grown Ups" event this Friday morning. Please see more details about that event below including important information on parking. As a reminder, this is not a "drop off" event. Families that bring their child must plan to stay until 8:50 AM. We are excited to see you Friday morning!
The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Mobile Lab will be visiting Hillendale during the week of October 14th to welcome each homeroom for a hands on science lesson. If you are interested in volunteering with us that week, please see our sign up link in the PTO section below. The form lists which classes will be in the lab on which days/times. Thank you in advance for considering as this is a really special, grant funded opportunity!
We will have a Phillies Spirit Day for Game 3 of the NLDS! Students are invited to wear red or Phillies gear with our staff.
Have a great week and go Phillies!

Hillendale Updates
Unexpected Early Dismissal Plan
Each year we ask our Hillendale families to provide a plan in the event that school should have an unplanned early dismissal. Please utilize the form linked here to indicate the plan that your child is to follow in the event that school should have an unexpected early dismissal by Wednesday, October 9th. This pre-planning is intended to provide us with an accurate list of dismissal preferences while freeing up our office phone lines for emergency purposes.
In the event of an unexpected early dismissal, you will receive an email that restates to you the information you submit below for confirmation purposes. Families should only call the school regarding dismissal on these days if they must change the plan indicated via email.
During an unexpected early dismissal, our buses will run their regular afternoon routes. The Y-Care After School Program and all after school activities scheduled in the building will be canceled.
Please review this plan with your children whenever the weather seems as if an early dismissal may be possible. Please submit this form multiple times if you have multiple children at Hillendale Elementary.
Photography & Social Media at Classroom Events
At Hillendale, we are especially proud that our parents are engaged as volunteers across our school and in our classrooms! We recognize that you may wish to celebrate your experience or the experience of your child and their classmates on social media. As you take photographs and post them to your personal social media accounts, please be mindful that our parents have varying perspectives when it comes to privacy. It is kind to have conversations with your peers and to refrain from posting others’ children until you have their parents’ consent!

Families that bring their child must plan to stay until 8:50 AM. Linked here is a "Donuts for Grown Ups" food ingredients list for interested families.

Volunteer Opportunities
🐾Volunteer During Library Class
Are you interested in helping during your child's 1st-5th grade library class? Library volunteers will help our Librarian check-in books as the children drop them off, put them back on the shelves, help kids to select books, and finally to check-out the new books.
We are doing a trial run of our new sign-up system from October 7th until Winter Break. Please review the expectations for volunteering before signing up.
Send any concerns or issues to Janette Grieb at janettepgrieb@gmail.com
🐾Volunteer with the Agriculture Traveling Lab
This year during the week of October 14th, we have the great opportunity to host the Agriculture Traveling Lab. This is a hands-on scientific method exploration for all grade levels. We would love some parent volunteers for the week! The Ag Lab asks for one AM parent volunteer and one PM parent volunteer for each day.
🐾Volunteer with the PTO Garden Club
Gather with friends to enjoy the outdoors while sustaining out beautiful outdoor spaces.
Husky Hustle
The Husky Hustle has a new format this year. This year the event will be held during the day on November 4th. All students will participate at no cost, and parents and guests are welcome to attend to watch and cheer on their Huskies!
Sponsors Wanted! Sponsor the Husky Hustle, and your business will be on the back of the event t-shirt that all Hillendale students will receive. Contact heptopresident@gmail.com for more info
