Wayne High School
Welcoming New and Returning Students and Families to Wayne High School
We were thrilled to welcome our newest Wayne High School students to kick off the school year at Freshman Launch Day. This event gave students an opportunity to ease into high school life by exploring clubs, activities, social supports, expectations, and graduation requirements. As they toured various locations in the building, they engaged with school administrators, counselors, school resource officers, and more. Students also had the opportunity to meet their teachers and walk their schedule, which we are sure helped to alleviate some of those first-day jitters.
We were equally excited to welcome our students and families to Wayne High School for Open House. We had a great turnout, and it was wonderful to see our students excited to embark on another successful school year.

Weisenborn Junior High School
7th Grade Orientation: A Great Start to the School Year
Weisenborn’s first-ever 7th Grade Orientation was a tremendous success! Held on the first day of school, this event gave our new 7th graders a chance to get acquainted with their lockers, familiarize themselves with the school’s procedures, and meet their teachers—all before the 8th graders arrived. This early introduction was a fantastic way to set a positive tone for the year ahead, and both our 7th and 8th graders are off to a fantastic start for the 2024-2025 school year!
Football Game Procedures
As the fall sports season kicks off, we are thrilled to see our students at both Wayne and Weisenborn football games. To ensure everyone has a great time while maintaining a positive environment, please note the following guidelines:
High School Games: Students attending high school games without an adult should sit in the Weisenborn student section, which is located at the far end of the stands in the last 10 rows. Students must remain in this area and are not allowed to roam the stadium except for trips to the restrooms or concessions.
Weisenborn Games at Wayne: For Weisenborn games held at Wayne, students are expected to be seated in the stands during the game. There is no requirement to sit in the student section for these games.
Behavior Policy: To support positive behavior, any student who receives a referral during the week of a game will be prohibited from attending either Wayne or Weisenborn games.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in creating a positive and enjoyable experience for all our students!

Charles Huber Elementary School
Creating a Positive Start: Charles Huber’s First Week of School
Charles Huber had a wonderful first week of school and we didn’t waste any time getting back into the school routine. Thank you to all our families who came to Open House to help make the back-to-school transition easier for our students.
Our teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms to create a productive learning environment for our students. During our first week, Mrs. K and Mrs. Blaine met with each grade level to outline Charles Huber's expectations and review our school rules.
This year, students will be recognizing their peers for acts of kindness and for making each day count. Additionally, every month on “Thankful Thursdays,” students will write letters of gratitude to special people they appreciate.
We look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth at Charles Huber!

Monticello Elementary School
Monticello Elementary: Together, We Win!
Our students returned in true Monticello fashion! As they stepped onto the red carpet, they were greeted with cheers, high-fives, and an abundance of energy. The atmosphere was electric, thanks to DJ Sean Turner, who kept the beats rolling while our students strutted their way back to class. Smiles were everywhere as the Monticello team ensured every child felt like a star!
But the excitement didn’t stop there! Our 3rd Annual "Boo-Hoo" event was a huge hit, especially for our newest Warriors—our kindergarten students. In what is quickly becoming a cherished tradition, our 1st through 6th graders lined the hallways, clapping and cheering as the kindergarteners made their grand entrance on the red carpet. It was a heartwarming moment that brought smiles (and perhaps a few happy tears) to everyone involved.
At Monticello Elementary, we believe in making every student feel special because...We are Warriors, and Together, We Win!

Rushmore Elementary School
Special Note from the Principal
As we embark on a new academic year, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all our students—both returning and new—and their families to Rushmore Elementary School. We begin this journey with great anticipation and excitement, united in our commitment to educational excellence and personal growth.
The well-being, safety, and educational progress of our students remain our top priorities. This year, we’ve implemented new procedures for the dismissal process to further ensure the safety of our students. With your cooperation, these changes will make the process more effective and efficient. To celebrate and encourage our continued success, we will award all students 10 points for their participation in the new dismissal process. These points will contribute to their eligibility for our first PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) reward. Thank you to all parents and guardians for following the dismissal procedures and helping your students earn points
Academic Updates
From August 26 through September 13, we are conducting school-wide diagnostic testing:
Kindergarten students will undergo mClass testing for reading.
Students in grades 1-6 will take the i-Ready Diagnostic, which replaces the STAR 360 assessment. First graders will be tested in reading, while students in grades 2-6 will be assessed in both math and reading. These diagnostic assessments will provide crucial insights into how to best meet each student's individual needs.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we strive for a successful and enriching school year.

Wright Brothers Elementary School
First Grade Popsicle Patterns
Wright Brothers Elementary has had an exciting start to the school year! Our students have quickly settled back into their daily routines and are already making great strides in the classroom. Our first graders have been working on counting by 2s in their math lessons. They created colorful popsicles out of construction paper and charted their favorite flavors as a class. The students then observed and discussed the patterns in their classmates' choices. The teachers are impressed with their progress and enthusiasm.
Attendance Awareness Month
September is Attendance Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of consistent school attendance. Each missed school day is a missed opportunity for learning, as many classroom activities cannot be replicated. Research shows a strong link between regular attendance and academic achievement. We view parents and families as crucial partners in encouraging good attendance. To support this, we invite you to watch our Attendance Presentation, which covers our attendance policy, reporting procedures, and helpful tips.

Studebaker Preschool
Studebaker Launches Year with Skill Assessments and Family Engagement
Studebaker Preschool kicked off the year by taking time to assess the skills of the district’s youngest students. Our teachers and paraprofessionals met with every student so they could set targets to meet throughout the year. We’ve also set a goal of 93% attendance for all students (September is Attendance Awareness Month!). Being present every day increases the likelihood that our preschoolers will be prepared for kindergarten, and so many of our students are excited to come to school.
In late August, we held our first family engagement event at the Huber Heights branch of the Dayton Metro Library. Students enjoyed story time and a craft activity aligned with our current curriculum unit, All About Me. Participants were encouraged to get a library card if they didn’t already have one (you can get one at any age) and to check out the extensive children’s section.
