This Week at Windsor...

Windsor Families,

I can't believe that tomorrow October begins! Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on October 20th and 21st, and sign-up links will be emailed out on Thursday, October 6th. Be sure to watch out for those! Please make every effort to meet with your child's teacher during these two designated days, it is very difficult for teachers to schedule conferences outside of these days. If you need an alternate option such as a phone conference or zoom, please contact your child's teacher to work out a mutually agreed upon option.

Just a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday next week.

We are excited to be sharing the RULER approach to social and emotional learning with our students! Our staff knows and practices the skills of emotional intelligence and is prepared to teach and model these emotional intelligence skills.

We will be infusing RULER into all parts of our school by leading school-wide activities, integrating conversations about emotions into evening events, and offering further opportunities for families to be involved.

In the classroom, teachers will be integrating routines that build emotional awareness, such as creating a class Charter and checking in on the Mood Meter. Teachers will also lead lessons that help students understand emotion concepts such as community building, self-awareness, and conflict resolution. Your child’s teacher will be providing more information about what RULER looks like in their classroom.

We are eager to see your children plotting themselves on the Mood Meter which helps them identify how they are feeling. Students will bring home activities related to the RULER skills and tools to do together. Your involvement is very valuable in reinforcing their learning.

Over the course of the year, I will be providing ongoing communication to you about RULER. We hope that you will join us at our upcoming family event if you are interested in learning more.

We are looking forward to hearing how you and your children are feeling this year and how we can support one another in creating a positive and emotionally safe school climate in which everyone may flourish.

We hope that you will become a member of our very active PTA. We are extremely proud of the partnership that we have with the PTA and are so appreciative of all the work they do for Windsor School. The ABC/25 Foundation (http://abc25foundation.com/) is another way to become involved. The Foundation supports the schools within the district with both large and small grants each school year.

Every week, we will share information about several staff members at Windsor. This week, get to know Windsor's 4th grade teachers!

I have been a Windsor Wildcat for the past 22 years. The majority of my 25 years teaching has been in grades 3-5, but 4th grade is my favorite!

I have a BA in education from DePaul University. I have a MA in Technology in Education from NLU and an MA in Administration from NIU. I also teach fitness classes to adults!

I live in Arlington Heights with my 3 teenagers, 2 cats and a dog! When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time outside. I love walking my dog, biking or beach lounging!

I am very honored and happy to be a part of Windsor School. Working with such a

wonderful faculty, staff, parents, and students is very rewarding. I am very excited

to be teaching your child for 4th grade this year, in my 27th year in elementary

education.

I graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with an undergraduate degree

in business management. I spent ten years in this field before returning to school to

earn my teaching degree. I attended National-Louis University and received a Masters

of Arts in Teaching. After receiving my degree I accepted a third grade position in

Wilmette, and taught there for 4 years. In the summer of 2000, I happily accepted a

position here at Windsor School. Since joining Windsor, I have taught third and fifth grades, and currently teach 4th grade. I have continued my education by taking many graduate level classes and workshops. I was also a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for many, many, many years, working as a teaching pro at a local tennis club, working closely with junior tennis players.

Besides being a teacher, I am a father of two children, (a son who is 31 and a daughter who is 30), both of whom attended Iowa State University, and both of whom now work in the education field as well. They are involved in music and sports; tennis and badminton being the priority sports, as well as many other activities.

I am proud to have been a Wildcat for the past 13 years. I started here as a 2nd grade teacher. I then taught a ¾ multiage for several years and now I am teaching 4th grade.

I graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. I have my masters in Differentiated Instruction from Concordia University.

I live in Mount Prospect with my husband and our three children. Our sons are in 2nd grade and kindergarten, and our daughter just turned one in August. My husband is a teacher as well. We spend our summers traveling. We love to hike and visit national parks. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and going for walks.

I’ve been teaching for 14 years, and 13 of them have been at Windsor (grades 3-5). I attended Western Illinois University where I received a Bachelor’s as well as Masters degree. I started my career in athletic planning/programming, but decided to attend National Louis a short time later where I received my Masters in education. I’ve been teaching ever since!

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to watch sports, cook, fish, and I’ve been involved in coaching my children the last few years as well. My wife is an 8th grade social studies teacher, and my children both attend elementary school in Arlington Heights. I’m a big fan of dad jokes, and of course, DA BEARS!

Hello Windsor Families!

Please pack a ziplock bag with a change of clothes for your child to keep in their backpack!

The health office is limited with the amount of clothing to borrow. Accidents can happen from Mud puddles and milk spills, etc. We know you don’t want to be called to bring clothes!

Next week we will begin to start conducting our hearing and vision screenings. This is mandated by the state of Illinois. Hearing Screenings will take place for students in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Vision screenings will take place for students in K and 2nd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Please contact myself or Kimmy Solano if you have any questions!

If you have a bunch of leftover paint from home projects or art activities here's a fun way to make use of it for Halloween! All you need is that left over paint, a tarp, and a bowl that you don’t mind donating to the good of artistic creativity! You can check out the project HERE. If your child will be absent or tardy, please call the main line and listen for the prompts, 847-398-4297. You can also complete this online form: CLICK HERE TO REPORT AN ABSENCE ONLINE. While you may also email the teacher, there are times that the teacher will not read email prior to school starting. Please always leave a message first. We cannot stress this enough. Please also make every effort for your child to arrive at school on time. Missing the beginning of the school day often has a negative impact on students for the rest of the day. Please contact the office if your child will be tardy or needs to leave early.
