MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Today, we are holding a very important Town Hall meeting to have a dialogue with the community about major changes that we must enact to achieve financial stability for the sake of our scholars. Please attend to learn more about the proposed options for a building reconfiguration, ask questions and share your thoughts about the changes. I appreciate the community’s commitment to this issue. I understand how difficult school closures can be, and I am devastated that they are necessary. We are committed to providing a high-quality education to Mount Vernon scholars, and I am positive that we can do that with either of the proposals we will outline this evening. We must make these difficult decisions for the benefit of our students.

This week, I would like to highlight a great case of student achievement at Grimes School. Our English as a New Language students put on wonderful performances to celebrate Hispanic heritage for their living wax museum project. They courageously presented their projects and danced in front of the entire Mount Vernon community on a Facebook live stream on Wednesday. They also performed for their parents and family members the past two days. I am so proud of our Grimes scholars.
Yesterday, we hosted our Health and Wellness Night at Mount Vernon High School. This was a free family and community event, which brought people together for the purpose of fitness and community connection. There were fitness activities as well as community and nutrition resources that were shared with families to help them improve their health. This was a great event that was organized by Lisa Mayzun, our Director of Health and Wellness, and her team. Fitness is an important part of life, and we hope to impart that importance on our students too!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
