Our Voice
Issue #41 | February 24, 2021
Good afternoon LISD staff,
Thank you students, staff, parents, and community members for your patience, grace, kindness, and resilience during these incredibly challenging times. It truly is amazing to witness our #1LISD family coming together with empathy and compassion, looking out for and supporting one another. This community is great because of each one of you. We pledge to continue to listen carefully to your voice and do everything in our power to help you meet your needs.
- Bruce Gearing, Ed.D.

Staff Spotlight
Winkley ES SRP Teacher - Cara Braden
Winkley ES SRP teacher Cara Braden knows, connects, and delivers her reading expertise to all her students. She uses chants and songs to captivate her students. Students love coming to Mrs. Braden’s class and can’t wait to see what they will be reading. Cara’s excitement for teaching reading is unbelievable! Recently, Cara was jumping for joy when one of her students learned how to rhyme. She doesn’t take anything for granted and celebrates all learning.
Adaptive Physical Education Teacher - Ryan Gough
Ryan Gough is an Adaptive Physical Education teacher, a Lazers Special Olympics coach, and is currently Head of Delegation for LISD’s Lazers Special Olympics program. During the trying times of COVID, Ryan has hosted infamous Friday virtual dance parties, put together the “Lazers Got Talent” show, and helped organize the Lazers Reindeer Run. The run started out as a brainstorm by the team and developed into a community of individuals choosing healthy habits during an unhealthy time of year for the common goal of simply moving along a map.
CPHS Dean of Instruction - Jennifer Colman
Cedar Park High School Dean of Instruction Jennifer Colman has taken on many different roles during this challenging time. She builds trust and relationships by putting people first. Jennifer understands the importance of nurturing positive relationships. Leading by example, she’s not afraid to accept a challenge. We are a better campus because of Jennifer!
Tarvin Elementary Information Meeting Today
Reminder that our first Tarvin Elementary informational presentation with Principal Christy Hilbun will take place today at 4 p.m. All teachers and staff that are interested in becoming part of the Tarvin team are welcome to join us via Zoom (passcode: united). Can’t make it tonight? An additional meeting is scheduled for March 2 at 4 p.m.
Help Shape Our Future Infrastructure Plans
We need volunteers for our Citizens’ Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC), a group of 100 volunteers who will meet virtually, evaluate infrastructure needs across all schools, and determine the recommendation for the district’s next bond election. We want teachers, staff, parents, community members, and students. Please sign up to join CFAC and share!
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As local health agencies continue rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine, Leander ISD is ensuring teachers and staff have the opportunity to receive it. In an update, LISD Health Services explains its efforts to secure opportunities to offer the vaccine to staff.
Bad Weather Make-Up Day
April 12 will be a regular school day to make up for the snow day on Jan. 11. Students need the minutes and staff contracts require employees to make up the time; therefore, we will use the bad weather makeup day allocated in our calendar. For our secondary students, this will be an A day.
