Students will remain at home. Teachers will post assignments to their Canvas page. Students will access and complete their assignments for that day without direct instruction from the teacher or teachers.

Each year there is a theme for Black History Month, to help focus awareness on a specific aspect of Black Culture and experience. This year's theme is "Black Health and Wellness". This theme is especially poignant since the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the disparity of access to quality healthcare for blacks and other minorities. The lack of accessible healthcare has negatively affected Black communities for centuries. The passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 desegregated hospitals. The Affordable Care Act, in 2010, helped Americans of all colors gain access to better medical care. Unfortunately, the US is still behind most of the world in providing affordable healthcare for most of its citizens. Celebrating Black History doesn't just recognize the past but also commits to the future. We must continue to be vigilant in our efforts to provide quality healthcare to all Americans.

Congratulations to the nominees from Mrs. Melling's Science class for the National Youth Leadership Forum in STEM. The following students have been selected to represent Fishers Jr. High School in Chicago this summer. These students may elect to attend this hands-on experience in the STEM industry, including guided field studies with a former NASA astronaut, building a Mars rover, learning medical techniques with Stanford's ER professors, and utilizing VEX EDR robots. These students demonstrated an interest and aptitude in science. Congratulations to Carter Smith, Allison Svilinov, Xavier Day, Eli Morrisey, Zuva Gurnell, Aiden Mustafa, Nick Leitze, Valerie Beeks, Ali Sanchez-Bravo, and Ani Ramjee.

Author Lisa Fipps will be visiting FJH on March 22, 2022, during BEST to discuss her award-winning debut novel STARFISH. Interested students should fill out the interest form available in the library or with the QR code on the flyer. Students may order a copy of her book through the FJH Writing Club. Mrs. Kletch's science classes were busy with experiments this week. Students were trying to make yeast release the largest amount of gas. They could choose to change the food source or the temperature of the water. The more gas released the larger the balloon.

Winter sports are in full swing and that means the indoor concession stand needs volunteers. Our plan is to have the concession stand open for all home Boys & Girls Basketball games and Wrestling matches. This helps to provide a welcoming atmosphere for our fans and guests of visiting schools. It also serves as the PTO's main fundraiser for the school year. Calling all 7th & 8th grade girls! Try a new sport this fall with Mudsock Youth Rugby. The league is looking for females, specifically in this age group, who want to learn to play under a quality coaching staff. Practices will take place 2 times a week with games on Sunday afternoons.
