U.S. Presidential Scholar
We are pleased to announce Hanson Du was selected as a finalists of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. Two students are chosen from each state. Du was previously announced as one of 625 semifinalists for this award. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars each year based on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and an analysis of their essay.
Governor's Official State Choral Program
Central's Chamber Choir has been selected at the 2024 Governor's Official State Choral Program! The Governor's Chorus selection criteria is based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement. The choir may be invited to perform at official state functions throughout the year as part of this unique honor.

Graduation Ceremony Information
All seniors will be required to attend graduation practice at The Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Friday, May 31st. Seniors must arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. so practice can begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Students should park in the north or south parking lots (not the Wellness Ctr lot) and enter the main doors of The Betty (facing west). This practice is mandatory and must be attended if you plan to walk through the graduation ceremony on June 2nd.
If you have a school sponsored event that conflicts with graduation practice, you must inform Mr. Strandell by Thursday, May 30th.
GRADUATION CEREMONY - JUNE 2
GFC graduation will take place on Sunday, June 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at The Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Graduates must arrive by 12:15 p.m.
All students who participate in the commencement ceremony are expected to dress in an appropriate manner. They are encouraged to dress nicely for this special occasion. The cap, gown and tassel are required to be worn. No personal additions are allowed to the cap or gown, other than the school-issued stoles and NHS pins, without prior permission from administration.
Only students who have completed their graduation requirements will participate in the graduation ceremony. The list of students participating will be finalized on Wednesday, May 29th.
Spectator tickets will not be required to attend the ceremony.

Seniors not walking in the ceremony, may pick up their diplomas and/or caps & gowns beginning on Monday, June 3rd in the main office at Central.
Lunch Account Refunds
You may request a refund, transfer funds to another student or donate the balance of a lunch account by filling out the form below. Funds remaining in inactive accounts (students who graduate or transfer out of our district at the end of the year) will be assumed to be donated if not requested by October 31st of the following school year.
Athletic Fee Refunds
If your student paid an athletics participation fee this year, but quit the sport in good standing before playing in any games, they may be eligible for a refund on that participation fee. A refund can be requested by completing the form below and submitting it to the main office.
Medication Pick Up
If your student has medications at school, they need to be picked up by May 30, 2024
A parent or guardian will need to stop in the school office to pick up these medications. If medications remain at the school after June 1st, they will be disposed of by the school nurse.

Lockers
Each student is issued a lock at the beginning of the year. If this lock is not left on the locker at the end of the year, the student will be charged $5.00 for it's replacement. ALL ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED FROM LOCKERS BY 2:00 PM ON THURSDAY, MAY 30TH. Our custodians will begin emptying lockers at 2:00 p.m., items left in lockers will be disposed of immediately. The school is not responsible for items left in lockers!

2024-2025 PowerSchool Enrollment
Online enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year is once again available for Grand Forks Public School students. This process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year. You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Registration 2024-2025 link. If you have not already completed the online registration process, please follow the directions through the link below to complete the online enrollment.

GFC Volleyball Summer Opportunities
- Open Gym, every Sunday starting June 2nd from 6-8pm in the Main Gym at Central. This will go until the Sunday prior to tryouts in August. This is FREE to attend and 9th-12th graders are welcome to attend (based on their Fall 2024 grade).
- Camps, there are a lot of camps in the area, mainly at colleges and universities. There will be occasional updates when camps are added on our sportsYou page.

Summer Running
Graduation Information & Deadlines
Prior to graduation, there are a number of items that need to be completed. The following is a checklist of all obligations/deadlines that must be met by each student before a diploma will be presented.
May 1st
- Senior photos and baby photos (baby photos are optional) for the yearbook are due on May 1st. Photos can be turned in any time prior to that date to Mr. Berglund or emailed to centralyearbook@mygfschools.org
May 15th
- Caps & gowns will be distributed in the main office beginning on this date. Students who have a hold on their cap & gown must satisfy all holds before it will be released. A hold may be placed on any student who owes: detention, classroom or library materials, misc. fees or fines, technology items, device damage fees, athletic uniforms, other misc. items or if there is an academic concern. No personal additions will be allowed on caps, gowns, or honor stoles without prior permission from administration.
May 17th
- Deadline for all bills, fees, and fines to be paid (such as lunch accounts, media center, athletic equipment, lab equipment, or book damages).
- Deadline for all independent study, online and correspondence course work to be completed.
May 22nd
- Deadline for completion of the Senior Survey. The survey will be sent to student email accounts in early May. Teachers will notify students when the survey is open.
May 24th
- Deadline to opt out of participating in the graduation ceremony. Students who do not want to walk in the ceremony must notify Kristin Wilcox in the main office by this date. You do not need to notify anyone if you are walking, only if you are not. We must know exactly which students are walking so there are no gaps in the lines and names match up to students as they walk across the stage. Students who opt out may pick up their diplomas and/or caps and gowns in the main office beginning on Monday, June 3rd.
May 28th
- The final day of classes for seniors is May 28th.
- All course work, tests, and detention time must be completed by this date.
May 31st
- Mandatory graduation practice is scheduled for Friday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center. All graduating seniors who wish to participate in the ceremony must attend practice and must arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. If you have a school sponsored event that conflicts with graduation practice, you must inform Mr. Strandell prior to May 31st that you will miss practice.
June 2nd
- Graduation Ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Students must report to the holding area no later than 12:15 p.m. All students who participate in the commencement ceremony are expected to dress in an appropriate manner.
- The cap, gown, tassel, and shoes are all required. No personal additions will be allowed on caps, gowns or honor stoles without prior permission from administration.
Only students who have completed their graduation requirements will participate in the graduation ceremony. Graduation requirements include not only the academic requirements, but also completion of detention hours, payment of all fees and fines, the return of all classroom and library materials, technology items, athletic uniforms and equipment, miscellaneous uniforms and all other loaned materials.
The list of students who will be participating in the ceremony will be finalized on Wednesday, May 29th.
After School Detention Opportunities
A few after school detention dates for serving detention have been added to the detention schedule.
On the early out days listed below, detention will be held in the commons from 1:15 - 3:15 PM. Students must check in with the detention supervisor in the commons before they begin serving their hours.
May 22nd
Costa Rica 2025
Grand Forks students enrolled in Spanish 2, 3, or 4 will have the opportunity to participate in the summer school course, Spanish Studies 2025. The course has both a classroom and travel component. The travel component will take place on June 10-22, 2025. Students must be enrolled for the full 2024-25 school year to be eligible. Your child’s Spanish teacher will have application forms available at the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year. Applications will be reviewed by a committee and students will be notified if they are accepted. Approximate cost for the trip is $3,700.00. Price includes round-trip airfare from Fargo, Travel Insurance, In-country transportation, local guide, all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, 3 or 4 star hotels, and entrance fees.

Summer School Registration
The high school summer school registration window is now open. High school summer school will take place at Red River High School from Monday, June 3rd through Wednesday, July 10th, with half and full credit classes being offered in the morning. If your child is interested in taking a summer school class they can register online at Central or Red River High School’s website or they can register with their counselor. The registration deadline is Tuesday, May 21st.
