Haggar Updates

We are excited to introduce Brag Tags at RMH! All students will start with a chain to wear or put on their backpack along with a custom RMH tag. Throughout the year, as they participate in various events, additional tags can be earned. Students can earn Brag Tags for participation in the following: Science Fair, History Fair, Invention Fair, Fire Prevention Poster Contest, Choir, Student Council, Safety Patrol, MVPs, monthly reading logs, quarterly honor roll, Spelling Bee, Reflections, having a parent who is a PTA member, and finishing the school year without any tardies. Brag Tags will take the place of the Try-Athlon award. We're excited to be able to reward students along the way for the little and big things they do to get involved and make RMH a great place to be!

Again this year, we are working to embed Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in our daily activities. The five SEL competencies (self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness) are all critical pieces of the whole child, and it's our goal to make sure we're growing minds and hearts. When you visit our classrooms, you'll see SEL Targets posted along academic learning targets. Grade levels will select targets that best fit the needs of their students at any given time. Look for continued SEL updates throughout the year!

We're pleased to let you know that RMH earned a TEA Distinction in the area of Student Progress as measured by 2016-2017 STAAR test results. We're proud of our students' hard work as well as our teachers' commitment to continued student growth!

Elementary students new to Plano who participated in a gifted program in their former school - Please request a “PACE Transfer Request Form” from your campus upon enrolling. You will be asked to provide official verification from the former school confirming participation in a gifted program along with copies of the test scores and/or additional information used when placing your child in the gifted program at the former school. (Decisions cannot be made until this information is provided.) The information will be reviewed by the gifted specialist at your new campus to determine if participation may begin immediately or if additional testing is required.

Elementary students new to Plano who did not participate in a gifted program in their former school - First through fifth grade students (enrolled after December 7, 2016) who did not participate in a gifted program in their former district and who did not assess during the spring 2017 PACE assessment cycle are eligible to be referred for the fall 2017 PACE assessment.

Elementary referral packets must be completed and returned to your campus PACE Specialist by 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 1 st . (Referral packets received after this date may be held for spring assessment.) PACE Specialists on each campus will assess move in students during the following testing window: September 5 th – September 15th. Letters will be mailed to parents the first week of October and PACE services will begin upon receipt of permission slip. First through fifth grade students who enroll in PISD after September 1 st , 2017 are eligible for the regularly scheduled spring assessment cycle.

Any student testing in the fall as a new move-in or gifted transfer student is not eligible to retest during the annual spring PACE testing cycle. However, parents of students who tested in the fall and did not demonstrate a need for services at that time, may contact the PACE Specialist to request a review of the student’s academic progress to determine if gifted services may be necessary for the next academic year. Please contact the PACE specialist for the review form. The deadline for submission of the review form is December 6, 2017.

Referred kindergarten students will be assessed in the spring of 2018.
