Mariner Update Family Edition
Volume 14 Issue 22
Our gifts as educators and parents are meant to be shared and used to benefit others; essentially, the purpose of receiving a gift is to give it away to others in service and love.
I love our school, do you love your school!
Belonging to Each Other
Dear Mariner Family,
Championship teams often speak of the unbreakable bonds that make them great—not just their talent, but their trust, their belief in one another, and their commitment to playing for each other. No matter their backgrounds, beliefs, or differences, they find a common thread that binds them together. That same spirit of belonging is what makes our human experience so much richer.
Think about the warmth you feel during the holiday season—the way we extend kindness to neighbors, smile at strangers in the grocery store, and share good wishes with people we may not even know well. That is the essence of belonging—the same spirit that Dr. King spoke of. It’s about seeing each other, supporting each other, and knowing that we are all in this together.
As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s take every opportunity to “play for each other,” to root for one another, and to embrace the truth that we are far more alike than we are different. And in that sameness, we all share the deep, human need to belong.
There are so many ways to strengthen our connections here at IHCS—parent meetings, Open House, athletic events, mariachi and band concerts, city parades, and more. And on February 15th, we have a special opportunity to stand together at the Peace and Unity Walk, starting at Mercado Park at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Black History Expo at City Hall. Let’s walk together, smile at one another, and celebrate the community we are building.
I would love to see you there—let’s see who can share the biggest smile! Together, let’s continue building our IHCS Championship Parent-Teacher Team and witness the profound impact this united team of adults will have on our children. By strengthening our bonds, trusting in one another, believing in each other, and committing to playing for each other, we create something truly special—an unbreakable foundation for success.
These are the essential ingredients of a championship team, and we have everything it takes to make it happen. So let’s follow the recipe, side by side, and create something extraordinary!
I love our school—Do you love your school!

Our 4th-grade students are doing fantastic things! In math, they are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of fractions! The last few weeks they have been working on creating equivalent fractions as well as learning how to find their simplest form. Our students have been expanding their problem solving skills through Thinking Classroom activities featuring real world problems. In addition to our math studies, we have also started researching influential African Americans for Black History Month. We are so excited to display our projects this month!
