We Are Grateful for Our Families! ๐
Happy Fall Muskrats!!
These kind parents have come together to raise funds for our arts and library programs, they have organized several community events already, and have even brought in treats for the mccs staff to help keep us all going!! If you see one of them, give them a high five, they really make a difference. If you want to join up and help keep this ship sailing forward, you can find information about their mission and meeting times on our website.
More Amazing Helpers!
- Karen Peterson & Lester Oehler for finding/installing gagaball mats!!
- Jessica Larsen for donating a day of restorative massage to staff.
- Julie Jacobs & Emily Maize for bringing in food treats for everyone.
- Sarah Johnson & Currier Place, Inc. for building the new fence to the West & North.
- Patrick Riccolo & Gabby Maine for organizing our Fall Raffle - they raised $920!!
From the Office...
๐ Did you know you can drop your kiddos off as early as 8am? Our "EarlyBirds" can hang out in the art room until school starts at 8:25.
๐ The office enjoyed art from your students in October - I loved seeing their creativity shine! We had Ramen window drawings, Boo and his best friend Boo 2.0, sketches, pumpkin faces, and more!
๐ This month we will learn about Native American Heritage and I look forward to sharing some fun facts with the kids!
๐ Please urge your students to check the lost & found. All un-claimed clothing will be donated 11/29
๐ I am in need of parent volunteers for an event coming up in December - hint: it's a crafty event!! If you are interested in volunteering for this, please let me know!
Food Drive, November 12-22
We are gearing up to start our first food drive of the year! We are partnering with the South Corvallis Food Bank to donate food for the holiday season. Starting Tuesday November 12th we will begin collecting canned and boxed foods just inside the front doors. You can find a wish list and option to make a cash donation on their website.
We also have a need for food donations for students. It happens every once in a while, kiddos show up with no lunch. Since we don't yet have a school lunch program we don't really have any food to share with students when that happens. If you would like to donate shelf-stable, microwavable foods that kids like to eat we can keep them on the "rainy day" shelf for them. Details coming soon!!
FUNdraising at MCCS
MOVIE NIGHT TONIGHT - Coco!!
Hang with friends and celebrate Dia de los Muertos tonight. You can wear your pajamas or your costumes, bring comfy chairs or blankets for the floor. Dinner and refreshments will be available for purchase from 5:30-7:30. Movie will start at 6pm! Proceeds will be used to support our music program.
DineOUT at Eats & Treats - November 14th
Classroom Shout-OUTs
Salmon Watchers in 5th
The 5th graders enjoyed their time at Clemens Park participating in Salmon Watch. Although the salmon were shy that day, the students were able to catch aquatic insects, do water chemistry, and learn about the salmon life cycle.
Pumpkin Buddies
The 4th and 1st graders collaborated together to design their special pumpkin! The basis behind the activity was for the older kids to work with the youngers; practicing their skills in patience, kindness, and collaboration while also having fun.
Fungus Among Us!!
Second Grade takes on Parts of Speech!
Eight Noodles are Better than Two
New game: Octopus tag! 5th grade learned about Octopus in the morning then got to play Octopus tag in PE! It's similar to sharks and minnows. The students love it!!
Kinder welcomes 4 Painted Ladies
Our butterflies came out of their pupas over the weekend. The Caterpillars grew very fast. We also just welcomed a new snake that arrived from Michigan. Anaranjado is a corn snake who lived in a 4th grade classroom for a few years. In the mix of animal excitement we are also exploring seed and plant life cycles.
The Sounds of Silence
The Battle has Begun
Muddy Creek 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have signed up in record numbers to participate in OBOB. The statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program was made possible this year by generous donations from our MCCS community. In total, 56 books, and an unquantifiable amount of reading joy, was donated: thank you!
Falling into Art
Ms. Karen has been busily rolling out artist centers and Teaching Artist Behaviors. Kids are working on things that interest and excite them, collaborating and sharing with others and are often teachers of their own small groups. Every day in the studio is new, different, and exciting as students are creating their art and growing as artists! Learn more about TAB.
Native American Heritage Month
Celebrating Multiculturalism at Muddy Creek
Our Justice Equity Diversity & Inclusion Committee has started this school year strong by raising awareness of our underserved communities. Our efforts include educating all our muskrats in the history, influential indivduals or groups, and celebrating their cultural heritage. Last month we learned about Hispanic Heritage Month and now we roll into November, we are shifting our focus to Native American Heritage Month.
Muddy Creek Land Acknowledgement
Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 the Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz.
Let it be acknowledged that Muddy Creek Charter School is located within the traditional homelands of the Mary's River or Ampinefu Band of the Kalapuya tribe who have cared for this place throughout generations. Let's give thanks for the opportunity to grow, learn, work, and create community on this land and respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities throughout time and into the future. Masi=Thank you
