South MS Friday Blast

Last week was a busy time at South MS as we welcomed 7th & 8th grade parents/guardians to Back to School Night on August 20th, and 6th grade families to the Back to School Bash on August 21st. This week our students returned to the classrooms and settled in with their new schedules, laptop distribution, conquering lockers, and navigating their schedules. Our 7th & 8th grade athletes are already practicing for fall sports and our student musicians are signing up for band, chorus, and orchestra. South MS abounds with opportunities for our students in conjunction with their academics. Please encourage your student to get involved in activities at South!

Fall weather can be quite unpredictable. Games and practices can change at a moment's notice and football, field hockey, and soccer team members are welcome to use the main office telephone to call parents/guardians regarding schedule changes. Keep up with the fall sports schedules here.

We started the school year with a 6th grade kick-off assembly for our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program (PBIS). You can get involved as a partner/guardian by having conversations with your child about their positive/appropriate behavior at school and the number of points they have acquired - granting them access to "purchase" items and/or participate in fun activities during the school day. Additionally, if you own a business (or know someone who does) who would be willing to donate items that could be used as "prizes" (i.e. gift cards, merchandise, etc.) that a middle-schooler would enjoy, please reach out to our principal, Mr. Renner. Note: all donations would be tax-deductible.

If you would still like to order a gym uniform from the SCN, be sure and complete an order form and have your child drop off the completed order form and money to the South MS office. Or, if you prefer, you can pay for the uniform through Venmo. (The completed order form will still need to be dropped off at the South MS office.) All completed order forms and money are due by September 6th.

If you are looking to start the new school year off with some South spiritwear, here is the link to the order form. Payment must be attached to the order form and may be dropped off at the South MS main office. All orders must be submitted by Friday, September 13th. Don't miss out on some new South MS apparel.

Kudos to our amazing nutritional services staff for their hard work every day providing such appetizing choices for our students and staff lunches. School lunches have clearly upped their game and the start of this school year is looking yummy!

Breakfast will be provided free of charge for all students for the 2024/25 school year. Lunch will be provided free of charge for our students who have signed up for the free/reduced lunch program for the 2024/25 school year. Families who qualify for free/reduced lunch must sign up for this program at the beginning of each school year. This record-keeping benefits the students at South in additional ways.

The Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club is happy to announce that Rachel's Closet is back again this year! The closet is a store of gently used clothing, coats, backpacks, shoes, workout gear, and more. Some clothing still has the tags on! We also offer personal items and toiletries. The best thing about it is that everything is free! Please encourage your child to shop with us. If you want to make a donation to the closet, you can drop off donations at South's main office lobby or purchase items from our Amazon Wish List. Hey South! Pink Out is only one month away. What is Pink Out? Pink Out is our annual fundraiser for Grand View Hospital’s Breast Cancer Unit. In the weeks leading up to Pink Out we have t-shirts sales, flag football tournament and bake sales to raise money. We are the only middle school who does a big Pink Out Celebration. If you would like to order a 2024 Pink Out shirt, shirts are only available by pre-order. Shirt forms are due by September 11th and cost $10. They are adult sizes only. No youth sizes are available. Forms are available and can be turned in outside of room 112. This year’s Pink Out and Flag Football tournament are on 9/27. See Ms. Meneeley with any questions.

GOLD PASS- Pennridge Community Residents 62 years of age or older can obtain a Gold Pass which will allow them into any home game (regular season) for free. These will be available at the gate of any game.

Stop by the Sellersville Museum on Saturday, September 14th or Sunday, September 15th to check out the Sellersville Schools showcase. There are some very interesting historical items from South MS on display so stop by and check it out.

The RamPacks program provides a food pack of kid-friendly, non-perishable food intended for a child's breakfasts, lunches, and snacks over the weekends. RamPacks is a CONFIDENTIAL program for families who need assistance with food over weekends. RamPacks is a partnership between local churches, businesses, and community groups in the Pennridge area and the Pennridge School District. This is a FREE program, without cost to participating students but you must sign up to receive RamPacks. Please fill out this form or contact your child's guidance counselor (lrusso@pennridge.org or mdeflavis@pennridge.org) to sign-up for this program.

We had a fabulous first week back to school and our outlook is bright for the 2024/25 school year for students and staff. We extend thanks to our families who joined us for our 3rd Annual Back to School Bash, and parents/guardians who joined us for the Back to School Night. Both celebrations were wonderful opportunities for both staff and community to connect and welcome your children to/back to middle school life.
