PRESCHOOL NEWS
Welcome back and Happy New Year! Preschool is SNOW much fun! Preschool classes have started their Snow Study. During this study, students will be learning about what snow is, fun things that can be done in the snow, what we wear in the cold and snow, polar animals and how they survive in these cold climates. Students will be working on their fine motor skills by making ripped paper snowflakes, learning various songs and poems about snow and winter and even become scientists and conduct experiments, such as what melts ice quicker, sugar or salt. All of us in preschool are crossing our fingers to get some decent snow, so we can go outside and make a snowman of our own!

PRESCHOOL GROSS MOTOR NEWS
The preschoolers have been so busy in gross motor! They have the class routine down, which includes stretching, dancing and other fun activities. The classes are focused on learning various locomotor skills and spatial awareness along with many movement skills. Walking, hopping, galloping and tiptoeing are just some examples that they have been working on.
Please remember that the children have gross motor everyday, so sneakers should be worn!

KINDERGARTEN NEWS
The kindergarteners at Stillwater School came back from break ready to learn! Kindergarten has been busy learning about addition. The students enjoy using cubes and drawing pictures to show addition. In writing, they are writing "All About" informational books about many animals. They are learning the difference between fact and opinion. In reading, the kindergarteners are building their reading muscles and working hard to decode unknown words. Keep working hard kindergarteners!

NEWS FROM FIRST GRADE - MRS. LOCICERO
The first graders rang in the New Year by reading "Squirrel's New Year's Resolution". We discussed what a resolution is and why people make them. Each student made a bell, where they wrote and drew what their New Year's resolutions are. Some of the students resolutions are; being kind, helping more, learning how to ride a bike, and spending more time with family!

FOURTH GRADE NEWS
Fourth Grade Science News - Zoologists have just heard about a new animal species on a remote island. They have very little information about the animal, and they have not yet been able to determine how the animal senses and responds to danger. They do know that animals use specialized sense receptors to sense danger and different methods to respond to danger. The challenge is for our fourth grade students to make a model of the new animal species using recyclable materials. The animal must have a way of sensing danger and responding to it. Students will have the opportunity to build and test their design during science. They will then present their scientific ideas and prototype to their classmates. I can’t wait to see, and learn about, the new animal species!
