Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
August 23, 2024

🚒 Here in River Bend CUSD 2, we prioritize student and staff safety in our policies, decisions, and protocols. While educating our students is important, the most important thing is that all of our students return home safely to their families.
🔥 On Thursday, both FBP and FES completed their first of three fire safety drills successfully. Our students did wonderful (aside from having to listening those loud and annoying alarms)!
We take various precautions to help prevent or minimize safety issues:
🔒 Classroom doors are locked anytime students are in the room.
🚌 We have made change to morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up to be safe for students.
👮 Our school resource officer (SRO Leitzen) works closely with admin and staff in all 4 buildings.
📅 We run safety drills for fire, severe weather, earthquake, and lockdown situations.
👓 We supervise our students continually throughout the day.
📝 Our staff is trained in Run Hide Fight training as a response to lockdown situations.
I emailed a letter yesterday to families providing more details regarding our upcoming safety lockdown drill on Friday, August 30 and have included it below as well.
If you have ANY questions regarding our upcoming lockdown safety drill, our safety protocols, or any other concerns you have please give me a call or send me an email and I'd be happy to help!
Have a great weekend!

FES students have the opportunity to eat breakfast at school from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at RBMS. Students need to arrive early enough to walk up the ramp, choose their meal, then sit and eat. If you plan for your child to eat at school, please drop them off with plenty of time to eat their breakfast and start school on time.
For more information on the importance of breakfast, see Breakfast for Learning: Why the Morning Meal Matters from healthychildren.org.

Celebrate the best in your children. What you give attention to grows! On a sticky note, write one thing you appreciate each day about your child and post it on their bedroom door. Doing this will help them to see the good things about themselves.
Dr. Hogue Visits 2B!
Monday, Dr. Hogue visited our classroom to read some awesome back to school books! We listened to “There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly” and “Caps For Sale”. We loved listening to the books and had a great time visiting with Dr. Hogue.
Off to a Great Start in 2C!
We are having a great time in 2C getting to know one another and learning the rules and routine in our classroom and in our school! We are looking forward to a fun year of learning and growing together!

Band and Chorus
This week, Mr. Anton came to talk about Band with 5th grade music classes. Students who were interested were able to try making sounds on different instruments. Parents, watch for a letter in the mail next week from Mr. Anton with more information about getting signed up for Band!
Next week, permission slips for Chorus will be sent home with 4th and 5th graders who are interested in joining Chorus (yes, 5th graders can do BOTH!) .
5th Grade Social Contract
5th grade students spent last Friday morning creating their Social Contract: An Agreement of Behavior. The process included using the Capturing Kids' Hearts four questions about how we want to be treated in and out of school. The students came up with words and examples of what our behavior should look like. They also worked as a team to build the Social Contract into only a handful of character traits. In addition to creating the Social Contract, students participated in a variety of teambuilding activites to help build a strong foundation and relationships with all. Rock- Paper-Scissors-Cheerleader was a favorite activity for the group!
