From the Principal...
Dear MacArthur Families,
Wow! That is all I can say about the energy here at MacArthur surrounding the FUN RUN and the incredible fundraising our families and staff have done for our school. We appreciate all the efforts made by our wonderful PTA to put on the event and raise so many funds that will go directly back into our school.
I was so pleased with our 3rd-5th grade scholars' courage while taking their Forward Exams last month. They displayed tremendous grit, and watching their perseverance shine was genuinely unique. As part of our ongoing commitment to assessing and enhancing your child's educational experience, we would like to inform you about the last Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing of the school year for K5-5th-grade elementary students. We already had two rounds of testing in the fall and winter, and next, we will have the spring testing period.
The MAP test is a valuable tool that helps us understand your child's academic progress and tailor instruction to their needs. It assesses their skills in various subjects, providing useful insights for teachers and parents.
Here are the testing dates and times that your child's classroom/grade level will be completing testing for both math and reading. Please ensure your child is well-rested and has a nutritious breakfast on testing days. Encouraging a positive attitude towards assessments can contribute to their overall performance.
Results:
You will receive a detailed report outlining your child's performance shortly after the testing period. This report will help you understand their strengths and areas needing additional focus. We encourage you to discuss the results with your child's teacher to create a collaborative plan for their academic growth.
Confidentiality:
Please be assured that all testing information remains confidential. Results are used solely for educational purposes to benefit your child's learning experience.
Please contact your child's teacher or our school office with any questions or concerns regarding the MAP testing. Your active involvement in your child's education is greatly appreciated. I thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gonzalez

News from the PTA
Fun Run
We hope everyone had a chance to come out and support the kids on their Fun Run today! We appreciate all of the support and the flexibility of all of our hard working volunteers with the rain delay of the event. We have WONDERFUL news and that is that we have shared with our students that the $35K fundraising goal has BEEN MET! We cannot thank our families enough for all of the donations. The students will be the direct recipients of this money through school/classroom purchases, and we are so thrilled. Donations are accepted until May 8th. Students will be able to continue earning prizes all the way until this fundraising window closes. Once we have a final donation number, we will share the total with you all. THANK YOU!
Staff Appreciation
Next week (May 6-10th) the Germantown School District and MacArthur PTA will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week. Since we personally think we have some of the best around, we are looking to spoil our amazing MacArthur Staff all week long. Every year we have asked if you all can help, the answer to that is always YES!
We have put together a sign-up genius of physical items we will be putting to use throughout the week, and we are still looking for a few items. We ask that any items be dropped off to either address listed on the sign-up no later than tomorrow, Saturday, May 4th. You can view and check out that list HERE.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation we are always appreciative of any amount and are willing to shop for you! Use this link to make a donation: Givebacks (memberhub.com)
Thank you in advance for helping us to make this week the best for our staff!
News
As we come to the close of the school year, we would like to remind you of the following items.
Our last PTA meeting of the year will take place next week on Thursday (5/9) night at 7PM. Child care will be provided and you can attend online here. We will be discussing the Fun Run, the purchase of Smart TVs for the 1st grade, the schedule for next year and our elections. We are still looking for people to run for our Vice President and Treasurer positions so if you would like to learn more, please reach out to us at ptamacarthur@gmail.com.
Don't forget to make your fall a little easier by purchasing a School Toolbox. All of your teachers have given us their class materials lists for next year and School Toolbox allows you to purchase all of those items now. The items will be delivered to the school in a box that you will pick up at open house next year. No shopping hassles, you pick up the box and take it to the classroom and your school shopping is complete! You can purchase your class items here.
We hope you have enjoyed the PTA events this year and hope you know how thankful we are for all of your support in helping us make MacArthur the best school possible for our teachers and our students.

School Lunch Hero Day!
Today is School Lunch Hero Day and we sure appreciate our lunch staff here at MacArthur!
Between preparing delicious food, adhering to strict nutrition standards,, and offering service with a smile, the nutrition professionals ARE ABSOLUTE HEROS! This day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff, and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million of America’s students each school day. Learn more about School Lunch Hero Day here. A couple of our heroes are pictured above. We thank all of the wonderful lunch staff who work at MacArthur!
Notes from the Office:
Lakeshore Chinooks Tickets
Through the Chinooks School Appreciation Program, the Lakeshore Chinooks have donated two vouchers to each scholar that can be used to redeem tickets to attend a game on June 12th. These tickets came home in folders today or yesterday - be sure to check them out!
Extra Eagle Notes
If you are a fifth grade family, and happen to have extra Eagle Notes, we would take them back at MAC to save on paper! Just send them to school with your student, and we will happily reuse them next year!
Last Day of School
It's crazy we are already communicating this, but this will be the last newsletter until the last week of school. Our 4K students will have their normal hours for their last day of school on Thursday, June 6th. Please note that 5K-5th graders will dismiss at 12:03 on Friday June 7th. We will dismiss scholars in the same way we would on a normal Friday schedule, just at 12:03 instead of 4:06. Bus arrival time to residences/after school care will be expected to be approximately 4 hours earlier.
If you would like to change your scholar's dismissal plan for that day, please inform your child's teacher by sending in an Eagle Note. If you know of the change already, an Eagle Note can come in any time between now and the end of the school year for the last day of school. The half day is quite busy for our scholars and teachers and we would like to be as prepared as possible by preventing day-of calls into the office that indicate dismissal changes.
If you have your child registered for Kids Klub on June 7th, it will begin as usual at the dismissal time of 12:03. Kids Klub will go until 6pm as normal.
Drop off and Pick Up Vehicle Line
If you use the vehicle line at MacArthur to drop off or pick up your student, please make sure to not block the driveways of residents in the area. Please leave a gap in front of the vehicle before you if you are in the vicinity of a driveway to residents can come and go from their homes.
Enrollment for Next School Year
Planning for next school year, begins early. Guardians of current K4 to 4th Grade Families: Please take a moment to complete the below 'Intentions for 2024-2025 School Year Form' linked below, as we anticipate classroom placement for the 2024-2025 school year.
Please note that this form is not the same as online Enrollment Verification. The above is simply to help us prepare next year's rosters. Please be on the lookout for an email regarding online Enrollment Verification in late July/early August.
If your family has an incoming 4K or 5K* scholar and you have not registered for the 2024-2025 school year, please do so HERE. Enrollment numbers affect the size of classrooms and staffing. The more information we have as we anticipate the next school year, the better we are able to serve our wonderful scholar population.
*Registration is just for new families entering the district. If you currently have a 4K student at MacArthur, you do not need to go through the entire online registration process for them to enter 5K in the 24/25 school year.
More enrollment information and specifics can be found here. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office.
New Address
If you have moved or are planning to move over the summer, please alert the office with your new address information.

Notes from the Library:
Hello, MacArthur Families! We are flying through this final chapter before the book is closed on the 23-24 school year. Please help your students to locate and return any school library books as soon as possible. A final list of checked-out materials will come home with your child in the next couple of weeks. All books are due back by Friday, May 24th. Any outstanding books will be charged to your student's Skyward account before the start of the next school year.
With summer around the corner, the Germantown Community Library will be visiting our school to discuss their fantastic summer reading program, and they will be open for all of your family's book-related needs.

Character Strong
Home-School Connection
Every month, we will have a new "value word" that our scholars at MacArthur are working on as part of our Character Strong program. We talk about this during assembly time and as part of the Monday videos that are shared school-wide. The students continue learning about the value word within their classrooms. MacArthur focuses on specific areas in the school as we teach the students how to practice the value word in their lives. So far, we have focused on Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, and Courage.
This month’s focus is Creativity. One way to think about Creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Creativity is 1 of 3 traits we are focusing on this year that help students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.
Opportunities to be Creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be Creative as a family this month? Have some fun connecting as a family while practicing Creativity. Here are 2 “PurposeFull Pursuits” for you to complete together. Can you do both this month?
Pursuit 1:
Get Creative with expressing your emotions through a game of emotional charades! Gather as a family and brainstorm some emotional words. Write them on slips of paper and turn them facedown. Then, take turns choosing a slip of paper and acting out the emotion (assist with reading as needed). Other family members will guess the emotion that is being acted out. After each person’s turn, take a moment to talk about what we may need when experiencing these emotions.
Pursuit 2:
Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice Honesty when responding and listen carefully as each family member shares. Use the emotional check-in questions below to find out more about that feeling. Practice Creativity to come up with a new question to ask in order to learn more! Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!
Emotional Check-in Questions:
Tell me more about that feeling.
Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?
What do you need right now?
