Parent/Teacher Conference Guidelines (Reminder)
**If you have a conference that you would like me to attend, please let me know ASAP so that I get it on my calendar!
The following memorandum describes what topics are expected for conversation and information with parents at the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences. These items would include the following:
- You should share with parents the reading level their child has been demonstrating this fall based upon any relevant data, including MAP reports*, you may have acquired since the start of the school year. Please be clear to the parents as to whether or not their student is performing on grade level, below grade level, or above grade level. Please also indicate one or two things that you will be doing as a classroom teacher to help improve their child’s reading ability.
- You should share whether or not the student is performing in mathematics on grade level, above grade level, or below grade level according to the information you have available to you, including MAP reports.*
- At a minimum, you should share at least one sample of the student’s writing, and discuss with the parent whether or not that student is performing at, above, or below grade level according to the rubric used at your grade level.
- Please discuss how the child is interacting socially with peers and other adults in the building.
This does not preclude you from sharing any other information, but in order to have common and relevant experiences for parents, these four items should be shared with parents during the conferences. Please contact your building principal should you have any questions.
*MAP Family Reports will be printed in color for you to share with families at conferences. Administrators will work on getting those reports ready for you in time for conferences.
CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE CORNER
How might this technique work for you? Can you identify one student that would benefit from you privately noticing some of their behaviors so they can become more conscious of it?
Math Intention Ideas
Some ideas are just good instructional practice resources and others are potential intervention ideas.
Check them out!
