Focus 2019-20
We've ordered new Cougar Cards and they are available in the office. We will put some in your mailboxes this week. We also ordered some cards that can be put in envelopes and we will share a couple of those too. Our goal is for every student in grades 6-12 to receive at least 1 card this school year. Mrs. Lortie will keep a Google Sheet so you see throughout the year which students still need cards. If you haven't already started writing, set a goal to get a couple of them done this week.
Social/Emotional Learning
Last week I shared the 2x10 Challenge. In this challenge, you intentionally spend 2 minutes/day for 10 days in a row talking to a student you are struggling to connect with about anything other than school.
I would like to see our entire staff take this challenge. Starting tomorrow, find that student and start a conversation. It may be one-sided to start, but don't give up. Keep it going and I'll share a Google Doc for some feedback later this week.
Reading in All Subjects
I recently watched a TEDx Talk with Mel Robbins. It was interesting and led me to the book below. As I am reading it, I keep thinking about ways we can teach our students some of the concepts it's exploring:
- How to beat fear & uncertainty
- How to stop stressing and experience happiness
I'm going to keep reading and thinking. If you'd like to check it out, you can find it on Amazon. If you decide to read it let me know. Maybe we can collaborate on some ideas together.
