April 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we venture into the blossoming month of April, I want to take a moment to share some insights and strategies for fostering independence and responsibility in our young learners. At this crucial stage of development, instilling these values lays the groundwork for lifelong skills and success.
Here are some tips and strategies you can incorporate into your routines at home:
1. Establish Routines: Consistency is key. Create daily routines for tasks such as getting ready in the morning, completing homework, and tidying up. Encourage your child to take ownership of their responsibilities within these routines.
2. Offer Choices: Empower your child by offering them choices within limits. For instance, let them choose between two healthy snacks or two tasks to complete, allowing them to feel a sense of control and independence.
3. Break Tasks into Manageable Steps: Teach your child to tackle tasks by breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps. This approach prevents overwhelm and builds confidence as they experience success with each completed step.
4. Encourage Problem-Solving: Resist the urge to immediately provide solutions when your child faces a challenge. Instead, ask open-ended questions that prompt them to think critically and problem-solve on their own.
5. Provide Opportunities for Decision-Making: Involve your child in decision-making processes whenever possible. Whether it's choosing weekend activities or contributing ideas for family meals, this fosters a sense of autonomy and responsibility.
By implementing these strategies consistently, both at home and at school, we can nurture confident, capable, and responsible individuals.
If you have any questions or need further guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or myself.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and fulfilling month ahead!
All the Best,
Melissa DeWeese

Save the Date! Young Author's April 26th
Mark your calendars for this CAN'T MISS event! Kokomo Area Literacy Association and IUK host Young Author's every year to celebrate and display student writings from all our school's in Howard County. Your child will have a book on display that they have authored and illustrated. What an accomplishment, we are so proud of them! We encourage you to come and celebrate them on April 26th from 5:00-7:00 at Kelly Student Center. There will be photo ops available for your child to visit and get pictures taken with their family and their book. You can also stop in to hear inspiration from Kim Howard, an Indiana author. There will be a large Book Fair on site, and the profit brought in from sales ensures this event continues each year so we hope you will consider visiting it before you leave. If you have questions about the event you can contact, Mrs. Hollingsworth. Hope to see you there!
