Possible Remote Day- Tuesday
Due to the possibility of bitterly cold temperatures next Tuesday, we are preparing for a potential remote learning day. Please note that no decision has been made yet, but we want to be ready—just in case!
To ensure a smooth transition, all students will be bringing their iPads home tonight. Teachers have already reviewed the procedures with students on how to access Google Meets. Below, you’ll find important information to help you prepare for a remote learning day:
What does an emergency remote learning day look like at Millburn Elementary School?
On a remote learning day, the schedule will be condensed compared to last year’s remote learning plan.
The day will be divided into two parts for K-5:
9:00 - 11:30 AM: Synchronous (live) instruction
11:30 - 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
12:30 - 3:00 PM: Asynchronous (independent) work
Early Childhood schedule will be the following:
9:00-10:15 AM Early Childhood
10:30-11:45 PM Early Childhood
Google Meet links for synchronous instruction will open at 8:55 AM. Attendance will be taken by the teacher.
Learning activities will focus on reading, language arts, and math, with the afternoon consisting of independent activities directed by the teacher. While these activities are not required, we encourage students to participate.
Cold Weather
As temperatures continue to drop, we want to ensure all students are prepared for the colder weather. We have noticed that some students are arriving at school without coats, gloves, or hats. To keep everyone safe and comfortable during outdoor activities and recess, please remind your child to dress appropriately for the weather.
Warm clothing, such as winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves, is essential to protect against the cold. If you need assistance obtaining these items, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office—we are here to help.
Winter MAP Testing
Winter MAp testing continues next week. This serves as our "half-way" point to check on students progress. Please make sure yoru child's iPad is fully charged! Please note the schedule below:
Tuesday, January 21-2nd, 4th, 5th (Math)
- If we are remote on Tuesday, we will push testing to Wednesday
Wednesday- January 22- 3rd (Math)
Thursday- January 23- 1st (Math)
* Kindergarten will complete MAP testing in small group over the course of the two weeks.
Students who need more time or are absent will do make-up testing on either non-testing days
Spring Clubs
We understand that many families were unable to sign their child up for a spring club. Extracurricular activities are extremely popular, and many of our clubs filled up very quickly. Registration went live at 3:30 last Friday, and within just a few minutes, several clubs reached capacity.
We truly appreciate your enthusiasm for our programs and will continue exploring ways to provide more opportunities for students to participate. Thank you for your understanding and support!
Children’s Book Drive January 21st- February 3rd
Millburn is hosting a children’s book drive to benefit Bernie’s Book Bank. With a goal of distributing books to 25,000 more children this year, they urgently need books.
Reading is the single most important skill a child needs, yet many children lack access to books,
especially books of their own. If you’re a child born into a middle-class family in this country, you have an average of 13 age-appropriate books in your home. But if you’re a child born into less fortunate circumstances, you have one book to share with 300 other children in your neighborhood. They provide free quality books for children to build personal libraries and have distributed more than 24 million free books since 2009.
We ask that you consider donating new and gently used children’s books (birth-6 th grade reading level) during our book drive. Children’s picture books, board books, recent non-fiction, graphic novels, and chapter books are all appreciated. Please note, Bernie’s Book Bank cannot use activity books, coloring books, dictionaries, textbooks, religious books, over loved or foreign language books other than Spanish. This YouTube video explains what is accepted: Book Guideline Video . If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please follow this link: Monetary Donation
Please help us achieve our goal by donating gently used children’s books (birth-6 th grade). Books can be placed in the collection bins located at Millburn Elementary School and Millburn Middle School from January 21st- February 3rd

Your child's journey into the magical world of education is about to begin, and we can't wait to be a part of it. Kindergarten is not just about learning ABCs and 123s; it's about embarking on a voyage of discovery, growth, and endless possibilities!
If your child will be 5 years of age by September 1, 2025, we kindly ask you contact our school office. We will be compiling a list of students and will then send out registration packets to families in early March.
We then ask for families to come in with their COMPLETED registrations forms on Wednesday, April 2 from 4PM-6PM at Millburn Elementary. In addition to bringing in the completed forms, we will need to review two key documents:
- Child's Birth Certificate
- Proof of Residency in the District
Let's kickstart this incredible journey together! Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We're eager to welcome them into our kindergarten family and watch them bloom.

Are you moving out of district?
If your family is planning to move out of the school district, we kindly ask that you follow the steps below to ensure a smooth transition for your child(ren) as they move to a new school.
1. Notify the School
Please inform the school as soon as possible about your intent to move. This helps us prepare necessary documentation and ensure proper communication between schools.
2. Request Records
We will need to transfer your child’s academic records to their new school. Once you know which school your child will be attending, please provide us with the name and contact information for their new school, so we can forward their records promptly.
3. Return School Property
If your child has any school-issued items such as textbooks, library books, technology devices, or sports equipment, please make sure to return these items to the school before your departure.
4. Update Your Contact Information
Ensure that we have your most up-to-date contact information. This will allow us to reach you in case there are any follow-up questions or details regarding your child’s transition.
5. Confirm Withdrawal Date
Please provide us with the exact date of your child’s last day of attendance, so we can officially process their withdrawal.
6. Check your PushCoin Account
Please check your student's PushCoin account (pushcoin.com) for any balances owed to the school or refunds you'd like to withdraw from the account. Please contact the main office for the refund form or with help accessing your student's account. You will need to provide an updated mailing address for any refunds.
We understand that moving can be both an exciting and challenging time for families. Our team is here to support your child(ren) and make this transition as seamless as possible. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact the school office.

Millburn Parent University
PARENT CONNECTIONS through a Parent University Series
We have already had opportunities for parents to connect with staff at the start of the school year, and an opportunity this week for parents to connect with other parents. It is important for our community to connect with each other in various ways to create a support network as we bring up our kids toward adulthood. The PARENT U series is another opportunity to connect throughout the year! Please consider taking part in as many of these opportunities as possible! Save the dates and times in this LINK, and watch for more details as the year progresses.
