Recesses Start and End at Door 8
Crosswalk from Door 8 to Kenwood Park
Kenwood Park Field
Our playground will be taken down next week and the new playground will be built soon after. We can’t use the school playground during demolition and construction, so our recess supervisors will walk students from Door 8, across the crosswalk, and to the Kenwood Park field for recess.
Safety During Recess
Here is the slide deck that we’re sharing with our students about safety during recess. Please look at it at home and reinforce our expectations! Thank you!
Parent Consent Form
Please sign and return the Parent Consent Form that will allow your child to participate in recess at the Kenwood Park fields (print this electronic copy or return the paper copy to school as soon as possible) to give your permission. Thank you!
Kenwood Lunchroom Volunteers Needed! 🥪
Hello Kenwood families,
Thank you to those who have already signed up, but we are still in need of additional volunteers to help in the lunchroom for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade lunches. To simplify the process, we're hoping to find volunteers who can cover the entirety of all three shifts (from 11:05 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.). We're also trying a new system to make it easier to sign up - see below for details.
How It Works:
Volunteer just once per month on a specific day (e.g., the second Tuesday of the month).
SIGN UP HERE via this Google Sheet (best viewed on a computer; columns F-I contain the sign-up slots).
If you can’t be there for all three lunches, that's okay! Our most pressing need is during the Kindergarten lunch starting at 11:05 a.m. We welcome anyone who can assist at that time and appreciate your help for as long as you're able to stay.
Questions? Contact Kelly Henry at Kellybhenry@gmail.com.
Thank you, and we hope to see you in the lunchroom!
Give to the Max: Now Through Thursday, Nov. 21
Thursday, Nov. 21 is the 16th annual Give to the Max Day, Minnesota’s annual giving holiday, but Early Giving is open now and continues through Nov. 21.
Funds raised through Give to the Max help our PTA support the entire Kenwood community in many ways, including:
- Smarts + Arts: residencies, field trips, activity scholarships, professional development, etc.
- Community-building: Back-to-School events, Woody's Welcome Walk, Fall Family Festival, Winter Sledding Parties, Spring Picnic, etc.
- Supplies: supporting classroom teachers, our school social worker, gym classes, outdoor gear for winter recess, etc.
Please join in contributing to Kenwood via Give to the Max and by sharing our link with your community. Together we can make a tremendous impact for our students.
Winter Giving for Kenwood Families 💝
With the help of the PTA, Kenwood is organizing a gift card drive to support families within our community. With gift cards, families will be able to use the funds at their discretion to get what they need most this winter: clothes, toys, groceries, personal care items, etc.
If you are interested in donating, we are collecting Target gift cards in increments of $25. We of course welcome larger donations, but ask that they be provided in $25 increments for ease of distribution. Gift cards can be dropped off in the main office with Danielle Sanders through Thursday, Dec. 12. Alternatively, if you prefer to give electronically, please Venmo the PTA at @KenwoodPTAMpls.
Please contact Ally Adamski if you have questions or are interested in receiving support over the winter break. Thank you!

Notes from Band 🥁
Students have been learning how to hold, make the first sounds, care for, put together, take apart and clean their Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion, Violin and Cello this fall. Most students will be ready to take their instruments for at-home practice before Thanksgiving break and play some easy 3 to 5-note songs. 😊

Interested in being an Art Adventure Picture People Volunteer?
While we are still months away from the start of in-classroom programming with Art Adventure from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA), there are a number of upcoming opportunities for adult volunteers to attend an in person training at MIA in preparation.
If you are unfamiliar with Art Adventure, it is an opportunity for students to experience art from MIA's collection of art across various cultures and periods, up close and personally through reproductions, technology, and props, encouraging student creativity, critical thinking and global awareness.
Art Adventure relies on adult volunteers to introduce classroom students to a variety of preselected artworks from MIA. No art expertise is needed but past volunteers have found the in person training sessions available at MIA very beneficial in preparation.
If you would like to learn more about Art Adventure and the upcoming in person sessions, please email Marstal Aamodt at marstal.aamodt@gmail.com.
