OLVCS Summer Updates #4
August 14, 2024
Dear OLVCS Families,
I just love the days when the teachers return to their classrooms. They stop in, we get caught up, and discuss the upcoming year. They are excited, the rooms start to transform, and the chatter and laughter in the hallway is music to my ears. It is so good to have our teachers back.
With that being said, we welcome Mrs. Sondra Allen as the MS Religion teacher. Mrs. Allen is an experienced teacher with a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction. She will be a wonderful addition to our staff.
After 20 continuous years as a parent at OLVCS (how amazing is that!?!) Mrs. Kathy Peters couldn't stay away and joins us as the MS Science teacher. She has a Masters' degrees in Genetics; and Human Genetics with an Emphasis in Genetic Counseling. She has also taught Health Science and Wellness classes at Penn State for over 20 years. Of her many strengths, having five children go through OLVCS middle school, will certainly be a bonus. She too will be a wonderful addition to our staff.
We are looking for a parent to be a Student Aide for a 1st grader. This aide will work directly with the student and assist in general school activities, and work from 9:00 - 1:30.This aide will be paid through an outside agency. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like a part time job, while your child is in school. You will only work on school days. If interested please contact me.

Finally, the 2024- 2025 theme. BE THE ONE; this is a quote form St. Teresa of Calcutta. It is simple but impactful. Be the One to love God by loving others; Be the One to help a classmate, Be the One to give a smile to someone who needs it...you get the point.
Make your day a great one!

Band & Strings Information
I'd like to introduce myself as the OLVCS Strings teacher: my name is Sally Minnich and I teach violin, viola, and cello lessons to OLVCS students in grades 2-8.
My name is Sandy Muller and I teach all band instruments: flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone and percussion. Band students begin in 3rd grade.
There are two upcoming opportunities for you to meet us and learn more about the band and string programs offered at OLVCS:
Wednesday, August 21 5:30-6:00
OLVCS Open House/Picnic
Look for an info table where you can meet us in person, see instruments, ask questions, and even register
Thursday, August 29 6:30-7:30
Band and String Info and Try It! Night
OLVCS Auditorium
We will have a combined event where you can explore and try different instruments, get more information, be measured for the correct size, and set up instrument rentals.
An instrumental music info sheet and flyer are both attached to this email, and will also be available at the Open House.
In the meantime, as you enjoy the end to your summer, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or are considering starting your young musician on a band or string instrument!

2024 OLVCS Walk-A-Thon
- Summer is a great time to start fundraising!
- Here are some fun and creative fundraising ideas that both you and your children can participate in over the summer:
- Lemonade Stand: Set up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood. It's a classic summer activity that’s also a great way to raise money
- Bake Sale: Organize a bake sale with homemade goodies.
- Car Wash: Gather a few OLVCS friends and offer a car wash service. This is a fun, hands-on way to raise funds.
- Yard Sale: Clean out your closets and hold a yard sale. It’s a great way to declutter and raise money at the same time.
- Dog Walking or Pet Sitting: Offer dog walking or pet sitting services to neighbors and friends.
- Chores for Donations: Offer to do chores around the house or for neighbors in exchange for donations.
- Family and Relatives: Summer travel is a perfect opportunity to see relatives and ask them for donations. Alternatively, use the summer to send handwritten letters to relatives asking for their support.
- Share your fundraising efforts on social media and tag our school’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Seeing everyone's creativity and enthusiasm will inspire our entire community and bring us closer together as we work towards our goal!
- Every little bit helps, and remember, your summer fundraising efforts will count toward students’ eligibility for individual, family, and class prizes!
- Donations can be made online at www.olvcatholicschool.org/walkathon or collected in your family envelope that were sent home this week.
- Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school community.
- We look forward to seeing everyone’s fundraising efforts come to life over the summer!
