Wickliffe Updates
Personal Communication Devices
During the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in disruptions during class time due to student use of smartwatches. We ask that you remind your student not to use their smartwatch during class and also to remember to save your own messages for your student until after the school day.
Looking ahead to next year, the Board of Education has approved an updated policy regarding students’ use of cellphones and smartwatches at school. The goal of the updated policy, 5136 Personal Communication Devices, is to reduce distractions, promote healthy habits and reduce screen time for our students. This new policy will be in place when we begin the upcoming 2025-2026 school year in August. At the elementary level, students may have personal communication devices (i.e. cellphones or smartwatches) at school, but these devices must be kept in lockers or backpacks during school hours. Students should only access these devices before or after school hours.
It is also important to note that state lawmakers are currently considering legislation that may further restrict the use of cellphones and smartwatches in schools. We will share more information if that legislation does become law.
Field Day
Field Day is coming up on Tuesday May 27th! Thank you to the generosity of the PTO, Super Games will be here again to help run Field Day. Students will be rotating through 12 interactive stations.
We will need 2 volunteers for each station. Volunteers will need to sign in with the front office and meet out on the playground blacktop 30 minutes before your session time starts. We will be going over safety and expectations for each station. If you are a caregiver that would like to sign up during your child's session, below are the times when each grade level will be participating in Field Day.
The K/1’s and downstairs 2/3 will be attending field day in the AM session. Their session time is from 8:30-11:05.
The Upstairs 2/3 and 4/5s will be attending the PM session. Their session time is from 12:05-2:30.

Lost & Found – Final Call for This Year!
Our Lost and Found is once again full, and we’ll be donating all unclaimed items a week after school ends. If you're visiting the building for any of our upcoming events, please take a moment to stop by the Lost and Found closet to look for any missing items.
Looking Ahead to Next Year:
-
Please be sure to label your child’s clothing and personal items. This simple step makes it much easier for us to reunite lost items with their owner. (Check out Mabel's Labels for an easy way to buy lables that also support our PTO.)
-
We’re looking for volunteers to help keep the Lost and Found organized. This includes checking for names on items, tidying up weekly, and helping with monthly prep for donations.
Thanks for helping us keep our Lost and Found under control—and for supporting our efforts to return items to their rightful owners!
🏡 Planning a Move This Summer?
If your family is moving—whether it’s to a new home within Upper Arlington or to a new community—please let us know as soon as your plans are finalized.
-
Staying in UA? You’ll need to fill out a Change of Address Form.
-
Leaving the district? Please complete a Withdrawal Form to help us support a smooth transition.
We wish you the very best in your new home—and, if applicable, in your next school adventure!
A Friendly Parking Reminder
If all visitor spots are full, please do not park in the staff lot. You’re welcome to use the bus lane for parking between 8:30 AM and 2:15 PM.
If you’re arriving early for a morning event (such as Town Meeting or Open House), we kindly ask that you park on the street to help keep the lot open for staff arrival.
We appreciate your help in keeping parking spaces available for our staff—thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
School Counselors' Corner
Happy May, Wickliffe Families!
I can't believe it is already the last month of school! I have sincerely loved every minute of being a Wickliffe Wolf this year! Although I am sad to leave this amazing place, I am very excited that Mrs. Shaffer will return next year! The rest of the school year, I will focus on transitioning things back to Mrs. Shaffer and getting our students ready to transition to their new grades next year! If you need anything at all in the coming weeks, please reach out at kkaram@uaschools.org or ext. 6503.
Summer Offerings:
Just a reminder that Upper Arlington has partnered with Hazel Health, a teletherapy service that is offered free to any students attending UA elementary schools! If this is something you would be interested in for the summer, please let me know, and I will submit a referral.

Take the online community survey by Sunday, June 15, and help guide the next steps. Visit www.uaschools.org/facilities to complete the survey and explore helpful resources to inform your responses.
It’s critical that we hear from as many voices as possible to ensure the final master plan reflects the priorities of our entire community. We’re counting on your participation!

Nurse Notes
Any prescription medication administered at school requires written authorization from the student’s physician as well as written parental permission. Per Ohio Revised Code, the Prescribed Medication must be received by the health office in the container in which it was dispensed by the provider or pharmacist (we cannot accept medication in baggies). Medication authorization forms and other health forms can be found on the district website at: UA Health Forms. Should you have any questions, please contact the Wickliffe Health Office at 614-487-5150.
Our health clinics track communicable illnesses and work with local public health agencies to mitigate potential outbreaks. If your student is diagnosed with or treated for a communicable illness/condition (strep, pinkeye, influenza, COVID-19, lice, etc.), please report those to the school nurse at wickliffehealthclinic@uaschools.org, or wickliffeattendance@uaschools.org. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure Wickliffe is a healthy learning environment for all of our students!
