“NOTHING IN LIFE IS TO BE FEARED, IT IS ONLY TO BE UNDERSTOOD. NOW IS THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND MORE, SO THAT WE MAY FEAR LESS.”
- Marie Curie
Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD.
In case you missed it…. We have set our school year calendars for the next two years! Special thanks to everyone who served on the CUSD/ACT Joint Calendar Committee which created the approved calendars, and bargaining team members from both CUSD and ACT who worked hard to reach an agreement. View the PDF family calendars for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years.
In other good news… the CoSA Visual Arts ‘Love at First Bite’ art exhibit which was canceled due to rain has been rescheduled for next Thursday, March 20th from 5-8pm at Night & Day Cafe. Come see (and buy!) works by our talented student artists. See flyer below.
It’s not too late to sign up to volunteer at the annual CMS Drug Prevention program. This impactful half-day program is made possible through our collaboration with Safe Harbor Coronado and has been a valuable substance abuse prevention program at CMS for decades (formerly called Drugstore). The event requires over 65 community volunteers (including many of our first responders) and we need your help if possible. Please see the flyer below and click here to sign up as a volunteer.
Check out our Newsroom page for fun stories including this week’s inspirational story about one of our special Adult Transition students celebrating Read Across America in sign language! View this press release as a PDF.

As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Charity Campbell, Amanda Tarantino, Lisa Stahley, Maria Martinez, Anya Lake, Heather King, and Yolanda Gonzalez: It's Nutrition Month, and we can't say enough about our amazing CNS Crew at Silver Strand! Not only do they make and serve delicious meals, our Crew is also incredibly welcoming, warm, caring, kind, and loving toward our students! We love the trying new fruits, vegetables, and recipes, and have enjoyed watching our students' tastes and preferences expand!
- Brian Schumeyer is an incredible teacher and colleague. He is flexible and always ready to go the extra mile! He is supportive, honest, and cares about students and staff.
- J.D. Laaperi is a committed, professional educator who serves our students and district in a variety of ways; teacher, robotics coach and mentor, and selfless colleague. In all settings, J.D. rolls up his sleeves and jumps in to make conditions across CUSD better for students and staff. He is a thoughtful practitioner who listens and seeks to understand. In all capacities, I value J.D.’s voice, demeanor, and contributions to CUSD and believe that we are fortunate to have him on our team.
