MES Information for MMSST
School Information for Ski and Snowboard Team Members
As we enter ski and snowboard season, Mammoth Elementary School would like to remind parents/guardians, students, and staff of the following important information. Please read below if your child participates in the ski or snowboard team.
- Partnerships: Mammoth Elementary School works in partnership with our students, staff, families, MMSST and MMCF to ensure student success. We work together to ensure student eligibility (see below). We are proud to work together to provide opportunities, both athletic and academic, for all students.
Check-Out Procedure: This year, we utilize the Verkada online system to ensure student safety. During pickup, QR codes will be posted in the lobby area for adults to check out skiers and snowboarders. Please scan the code and select "sign out". You will need to enter your child's name and your name. If a trusted adult will be picking up your child, they MUST be on your Aeries emergency contact list (Aeries Parent Portal Link). Please ensure this is done the night before the pickup.
Check-Out Time: Students will be released at 12:30pm only. No early check-outs will be allowed to ensure the least amount of interruption to instructional time.
Eligiblity
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and Mammoth Unified School District collaborate to develop academic and behavior standards that must be maintained to participate in the MMSST programs.
• ACADEMICS: Individual teachers monitor all academic standards. Ski and snowboard team members will receive assignments to complete at home each week. Students must complete these assignments as they will not be eligible to ski/snowboard with missing assignments or less than a passing grade as set forth by the teacher. Assignments will be checked weekly.
• BEHAVIOR/CITIZENSHIP: Students who receive a behavior referral at school on a ski day are not allowed to ski on that day.
• RULES: When buses start, students must get to the bus on time after skiing. Buses depart at specific times. Students who are late for the bus will not be allowed to ski the following week/day. Students may not use candy/soda machines during school days.
If an MMSST team member is ineligible, he/she will not ski on ski team weekdays (K-2 Thursday/Friday; 3-5 Wednesday/Friday). If he/she misses skiing for two consecutive weeks or three
weeks total in a season, a meeting will be held to determine the next steps with both MMSST and MUSD.
