Irish American Heritage Month
Irish American Heritage Month is timed during the month of March when St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday traditionally celebrated by many Irish Americans, also takes place. The first Irish American Heritage Month happened in 1991 and continued to be established through Congressional laws and presidential proclamations. US presidents have since issued annual presidential proclamations for Irish American Heritage Month since 1997 making it an established tradition.
WOMENS HISTORY MONTH
Women’s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to U.S. history. From Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, the timeline of women’s history milestones stretches back to the founding of the United States.
The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.
A few years later, the idea caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Six years later, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.

Mental Health Literacy: Eating Discorders
Coping with an eating disorder can be a challenging journey, but remember, you're not alone. Eating disorders are challenging, but with the right knowledge and support, recovery is possible. Encouraging healthy attitudes towards food and body image is a crucial step in both prevention and support.

Mental Health Literacy: The Vital Role of the School Counselor
In our schools, mental health is just as crucial as academic success, and school counselors are at the forefront of addressing this. They provide a safe space for students to express their concerns, helping them tackle challenges ranging from academic pressures to personal issues. Counselors are trained to identify signs of distress, provide emotional support, and refer students to additional resources when needed. Their presence in schools contributes to a healthier, more supportive learning environment. Thank a school counselor today.
Upper Darby Summer Stage
If you could give your child the tools they need to build confidence, self-esteem, and empathy for others, would you?
It's no surprise that recent studies have shown that the arts provide a valuable set of tools for your child! And at Summer Stage, your child will be given a toolkit to learn how to not only be a better performer, but more importantly, how to be a great person who works well with others, who benefits from positive feedback, and who learns skills they can use throughout their life.
"The arts...improve our psychology by offering enhanced self-efficacy, coping and emotional regulation. They improve our physiology by lowering stress-hormone response, enhancing immune function, and increasing cardiovascular reactivity. And that's just the beginning."
- Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross,
Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us

Delco Contact - Family Peer Connection
What is Delco Contact and How Does It Work?
Delco Contact supports families that are currently trying to access mental health services in Delaware County, by connecting with them through Family Peer Specialists (FPS) and Youth Support Partners (YSP. Learning about all the treatment options and planning to access them can be overwhelming at first. In Delco Contact you will work with FPS or YSP to enroll in the appropriate mental health program that is the best fit for you and your family. They have experienced similar challenges and know how to overcome the barriers that can sometimes stand in the way of getting the help that you need. We are excited to join with you and your family through our shared experience.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Here are some outcomes you can expect when Delco Contact partners with your family:
- We'll support through the application process of actively enrolling in Medical Assistance if needed
- We'll teach you about all the different mental health programs that are available to Delco residents and assist you in accessing the right services for you and/or your family
- We'll focus on your strengths and family's culture to best plan for your success with the help of peer support
