MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This week, families visited our schools for Parent Involvement Day, and it was wonderful to see how many children got to see their parents taking an interest in their education. Parents visited classrooms, learned about resources such as the Parent Resource Center that are available in the District, and participated in informative workshops all day long.
Mount Vernon High School students were introduced to their new esports room yesterday, and this will provide a great place for the new Esports Club to compete. While this is a fun initiative, students must earn their way in with good grades and attendance. Giving students more motivation to do well in school by providing them with exciting activities is a fantastic way to make students more invested in their education.
Happy Valentine's Day! The Unique Learners at Grimes School recently celebrated the holiday with their Valentine’s Love Ball. Unique Learners is a special education program in the District, which provides support to students with disabilities. Giving these students the opportunity to have this dance and celebrate the holiday with their friends and family will truly be a positive memory for them.
We are highlighting Bryce Marable this week, a senior from Mount Vernon STEAM Academy who is on a path to great success through his academic commitment. He has excelled every step of the way, and college acceptances are already coming in. The District is so proud to have such phenomenal students, and we wish Bryce luck on his path to becoming a physician!
Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes; it was wonderful celebrating my birthday with all the wonderful people who are working to support our students. I am also celebrating my second anniversary as Acting Superintendent today, and I would like to thank everyone for all the support I have received during my tenure, and I appreciate the phenomenal work being done throughout the District.
Scholars at Mount Vernon Honor Academy conducted STEM experiments during a visit by New Yorkers for Clean Energy last Friday. This lesson was provided entirely for free and opened students’ minds up to the possibilities of new and existing careers in the energy industry. We want to prepare students for careers in any industry, and these experiments were a great opportunity to expose them to well-paying and exciting professions.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
