Jessop Primary School Presents......The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
This year’s school Christmas production, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, was a magical showcase of the values of courage, kindness, and forgiveness. The amazing acting, singing, and choreography by all the children—from Nursery to Year 6—brought C.S. Lewis’s classic tale to life with incredible energy and talent. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers for their creativity, to Mr. Andrews for his inspiring musical direction, and to our wonderful parents for their unwavering support. We wish everyone a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year!
Jessop Topic Dress-Up Day: Learning Comes to Life
Jessop Topic Dress-Up Day was a spectacular display of creativity and enthusiasm as children and teachers dressed up to represent the topics they are learning about. The highlight of the day was a whole school assembly, where the children proudly showcased their imaginative costumes, bringing their studies to life. The event was a wonderful way to celebrate learning and inspire curiosity across the school community!
A Message from Mr Baffoe
This half term has been filled with exciting events and wonderful community spirit! Highlights include the Year 3 and 4 Federation Spelling Bee, where our young wordsmiths shone, and the Parent Reading Drop-In, which went ahead successfully despite a power cut—thank you to all the parents who attended in such great numbers. Dad's Club had an adventurous "inside theme" with rock climbing training, while Year 4 enjoyed an unforgettable residential visit to Ufton Court. A huge thank you to parent volunteers who helped make Christmas Lunch so special and to everyone who supported the Winter Fair, raising much-needed funds for our school. The Music Masters Winter Concert showcased the incredible talent of our violinists and cellists, and the Whole School Christmas Production was yet another fantastic performance, supported by our amazing parent community. Thank you all for making this half term so memorable! Enjoy the festive holiday and have a great New Year we look forward to seeing you then.
Our activities since the start of thee December SEND Newsletter out now!
Year 4's Exciting Ufton Court Adventure
Year 4 embarked on a memorable three-day residential trip to Ufton Court, filled with fun and learning. The children enthusiastically participated in activities such as archery, fire-starting, cord-making, and wool-spinning, immersing themselves in hands-on experiences. A highlight of the trip was dressing up for a Roman banquet, bringing history to life in an unforgettable way. A big thank you to our wonderful teachers, Mr. Ufton, Mr. Akyol, and Ms. Brown, for their dedication and effort in making this trip a fantastic success!
Inspiring Change: A visit from Rt Hon Dr Stuart Lawrence
Jessop Primary School was honored to host Rt Hon Dr Stuart Lawrence, brother of Stephen Lawrence, for a motivational and impactful talk with our KS2 children. Dr Lawrence encouraged the pupils to be the best version of themselves by following 'The Golden Rules of Life', leaving them with a powerful message of hope, tolerance, and the reminder that Silence Is Not an Option—the title of his inspiring book. After his presentation, children had the opportunity to ask questions about his life journey, fostering meaningful discussions. We look forward to welcoming Rt Hon Dr Stuart Lawrence back in the new year!
Exploring Careers: The World of Insurance
Last month, one of our parents led an engaging assembly as part of our In a World of Possibilities series, sharing insights into the insurance industry. The session was both informative and fascinating, offering an overview of the work involved in this field and the opportunities it presents. Our pupils asked thoughtful and in-depth questions, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm for the possibilities available to them in the future.
Christmas Lunch and Jumper Day Joy!
Our Christmas Lunch and Jumper Day were a huge success, filled with festive cheer and community spirit! A special thank you to Miss Jenkins and Miss Stephanie for their fantastic organisation, and to Miss Justina and her hardworking kitchen staff for preparing a truly delicious meal. We’re also incredibly grateful to the parent volunteers who gave their time to help make the day so special. The children looked wonderful in their festive jumpers, and the event brought smiles all around. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this memorable day!
A Spectacular Music Masters Winter Concert
Jessop’s Winter Wonders: A Festive Sing-Along Celebration
Jessop Primary School’s first-ever Winter Wonders Concert was a resounding success! A heartfelt thank you to the Jessop Choir, Jessop School Band, Mr. Andrews, the Jessop Jammers (in their debut performance), and Music Masters violinists for delivering unforgettable performances. The event was exceptionally well attended by parents and carers—your support made it truly special. Special thanks to Friends of Jessop, Anna, and her husband, for providing delicious snacks for the evening. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and a peaceful New Year!
FoJ (Friends of Jessop) - Update
Winter Fair 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you and your families had a wonderful time at the Jessop Winter Fair on Friday! We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community and the event was a resounding success.
We raised nearly ÂŁ2,000 on Friday and a further ÂŁ1,000 from everyone who took a Winter Fair advertising board. A fantastic result.
The money will go towards supporting the children's residential trips, buying new playground equipment and funding lots of activities and equipment to benefit all the Jessop Primary children throughout the year.
We'd also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to John D Woods for their incredible support in sponsoring our advertising boards and running a stall at the fair.

Homework
Please help support your child with their spellings by looking at the spelling rules, sounds and patterns in each word. Practising spellings daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word.
In KS1, children will need to choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children will need to write a sentence for each word, using neat, joined handwriting.
This will give the children the opportunity to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context and allow them to practise their handwriting.
The children will complete a Spelling and Times Table test during the week.
Top questions to ask your child this month!
Please remember, there is a 'Word of the Week' for every subject.
In this Jessop Journal, we cast a spotlight on some of the vocabulary learnt in RE this term.
What RE word of the week has your child been learning?
Year 1- Celebration Year 4 - Ceremony
Year 2- Harvest Year 5 - Harmony
Year 3 - Respect Year 6 - Pilgrimage
Please reinforce the learning by asking them what it means.

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential, is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.01am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome…
3) You may raise your concerns with Mr Baffoe
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Mr Baffoe on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FoJ but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
