LycoCTC Rotary Student of the Month-Lacey Forwood
The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce Lacey Forwood as
Rotary/LycoCTC Student of the Month for September, 2024. Lacey, daughter of Mark Forwood
and Andrea Kishbaugh of Unityville, PA, has received this honor based upon her outstanding
work ethic, attendance, behavior, community service, and the recommendation of her LycoCTC
Early Childhood Education instructor.
A Hughesville High School junior, Lacey is active in HHS Softball, SADD, Christian Club,
Sports Club and the Lycoming Career and Technology Center Chapter of the National Technical
Honor Society. She also helps with church functions.
Following graduation in 2026, Lacey plans on attending Messiah University with a major in
Early Childhood and Special Education.
Cooperative Education
We are excited to provide students with work-based learning experiences and appreciate all of our local business partners. There are currently 21 students participating in our cooperative education program. Brooke Wright an Early Childhood Education student and a East Lycoming senior is currently doing her cooperative education placement at Ashkar Elementary!
Automotive Technology
The students have been very helpful with putting together new items in the shop. They were excited about the new toolbox! They also put together a gas cylinder cabinet.
The Automotive students also went on a field trip to the Blaise Alexander Dealerships!
Computer Systems Technology
Seniors are practicing fabricating ethernet cables, a core part of their NOCTI exams in the spring.
The students in the Computer Systems class presented their slideshows on Safety in the classroom!
Construction Trades
Construction students did an activity that involved teamwork and balance! Who could build it the tallest without it falling down! The winners had 37 levels!
The students played a Project Management game to understand the importance of communication, attendtion to detail, and collaboration.
There was a Architect, Project manager and builder in each group. The Architect can only see the plans, only talks to the project manager. The Project manager cant see the plans and cant see the building, but can talk to the architect and builder. The Builder can only talk to the project manager and has to build what he is told.
The Construction students set up scaffolding.
The students are also learning the skills to measure correctly.
Construction Technology students work on projects to organize the workshop.
Criminal Justice
The students have been doing PT in class!
In Criminal Justice, students have been learning how to use the two-way radios and call in information using the NATO phonetic alphabet and 10-codes. They are also practicing traffic duty as students cross an intersection.
Students are using their cognitive thinking skills for a brain teaser task!
Culinary Arts
The Culinary students had 20 minutes to make a poster about fire and safety! A winner was picked in each session!
The students enjoyed a blind fold taste testing game!
The students are learning French Classical Knife cuts.
The students did a team building exercise in Culinary. The objective was to build the tallest tower with the available materials.
Culinary arts students show off their "egg protection devices" before the egg drop. Teams of students had 10 minutes to design a device to protect their eggs for the drop.
Early Childhood Education
The student teachers are excited and fully prepared for the first day of preschool at LycoTykes! They have been working hard to develop developmentally appropriate lessons designed to engage and support each child's growth with their plans in place, they are ready to create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment for all who attend!
Health Careers
The Health Careers class did an activity called " Do you know Anatomy?" They traced the outline of a classmate's body. They then had to draw and label different body organs/parts in the correct anatomical space. If they put the parts in the correct place, they receive a point!
All students learned the principles of Infection Control and learned proper handwashing technique and how to properly don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE.)
Level 1 & 2 students learned to safely transfer patients from bed to the wheelchair. Level 3 students are learning to properly utilize sterile technique. They started by cleaning and wrapping instruments to be sterilized. They then learned to open sterile packages, create a sterile field, and don sterile gloves.
Alexandria Raup (Warrior Run) received her CNA Certification!
LycoCTC Presenters
Chef Sam came and gave the students some in-service training on how to use the rational combi pro I and they cooked an entire plated dinner at the same time in the oven. Steaks provided by Curtze Foods, roasted potatoes, and carrots.
Pat Dixon from UNOH visited the Automotive class.
Positive Behavior Support Program
Congratulations to the students that had their tickets pulled for the Positive Behavior Support Program!
Friendly Competition Builds Relationships
Minute to Win It Monday! Mrs. McCarty had several students participate in the game. The object is to balance as many pencils on the back of your hand and then throw them up and catch them all.
Students enjoyed a game of cup stacking. The winners received a bag of chips!
Perkins Grant Purchases
We utilize the Carl F. Perkins Federal Grant to purchase equipment for our programs. These funds allow us to maintain and improve industry standard equipment for the students. A construction toolkit was purchased and is being used by students already.
Another item purchased was the CareerSafe software. This gives the students the opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials and certifications in their field of study. Pictured below is a student in Criminal Justice completing her OSHA course and receiving her Certificate of Completion!
LycoCTC Alumni Spotlight
Trevor Stroble- Loyalsock 2017-Health Careers
Trevor is a 2017 graduate from Loyalsock Highschool. He completed the Health Careers program while attending LycoCTC. He works at Susquehanna Regional EMS as an EMT on Ambulance 20. He is currently enrolled in the Fire Academy!
