Notes From the Superintendent
Greetings,
As we wrap up our first month of the new school year, I’d like to take this opportunity to pause to reflect on what an incredible start we’ve had. The schools are bustling with positive energy from students and staff alike. This year has been marked by smooth transitions, from our youngest students taking their first steps into the elementary schools to our seniors who venture into their final year here in MSAD #60. Teachers and staff have hit the ground running with innovative lessons and activities. Fall athletics are well underway and clubs and other activities are in various stages of “kick off” for the 2024-2025 school year. It has been heartening to see the support from families and community members during Open House dates or back-to-school events.
While we’ve faced some challenges, with bus driver shortages, we appreciate the patience and understanding shown throughout the community as we grapple with the shortages. This began several years ago and continues to this current day. The district is looking to hire four drivers across the district. This shortage is part of a nationwide trend that has been exacerbated by the ongoing difficulty in the job market. We want to assure you that we are actively working to address this situation and minimize its impact on our students and families.
At this time, all the members of the Transportation Department are pitching in to help cover bus routes and thus far things have gone well given the staffing challenges. Where things get more difficult is when there is one or a few driver absences on a given day. This causes a higher number of “uncovered” bus routes. The Transportation Director, the drivers, and administration are working in concert to find coverage options when there are driver absences but as a last resort, routes may need to be canceled on a given day. If it is necessary to cancel a route, that information will be shared in as timely a manner as possible with those impacted. Again, please know that this has our full attention. To that end, if you, or someone you know, is interested in learning more about joining MSAD #60 as a bus driver, please contact 676-2856 and ask to speak with Lee-Ann Cammett or Brenda Cravens.
On a totally different note, the district is working with Harriman and Associates to conduct an updated facilities study. The last study was completed in the early 2000s. This study will assess the current conditions of the school buildings and look at student enrollment trends with the goal to assist the district as we plan for future needs. The Harriman team will examine everything from classroom spaces, to playgrounds, parking, safety features and energy efficiency, just as a few examples. Once the study is complete, community information sessions will occur to review findings and discuss next steps. Stay tuned!
Finally, you may have noticed that the September Newsletter featured some students with blurred faces. This is something you will notice from time to time as we work not only to share the story of MSAD #60 students and staff throughout the school year, but also be cognizant of the balance between showcasing the Noble experience and privacy. With that said, the district newsletter doesn’t hit the social media platforms, rather it is something the district sends out to those families who have opted in to Messenger, the school district notification system.
We look forward to showcasing the many strengths of the students and staff of MSAD #60 throughout the school year.
Regards,
Audra Beauvais
