ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS
Parents, we know your senior has a lot to tackle their senior year. College applications, homework, ACT prep, class, extra curricular activities, and more. We can see why it is easy for parents to want to help take the load off their students' shoulders.
While it is okay for parents to help keep track of scholarships and college applications, it's actually considered plagiarism if a student turns in an application or scholarship essay as their own written by a parent. Award committees know what to expect and what is normal for a high school Senior to write.
It is also important for students to apply to schools themselves. Applying to schools is an important part of this whole process. It will help them understand how their accounts are set up , log in information, and how to log in and navigate the school website they plan to attend.
How to Help:
- Time management skills
- Help them brainstorm essay topics. Provide them directions, and give feedback
- Proofread essays. However, keep in mind that editing does not mean rewriting the entire piece
- COMPLETE THE FAFSA! This will open on December 1!
Make sure your student is self-advocating. If they need transcripts sent or letters of recommendation sent, encourage them to handle those things for themself. They can always see their school counselor or Mrs. Bradley in the Counseling Center if they need assistance.
ATTENTION POSSIBLE MILITARY ENLISTMENTS!
If you are considering enlisting in the military, please send Mrs. Bradley an email. Please let her know which branch you plan to enlist in.
ATTENTION SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS!
The first half of the school year is almost over. We have had very few students turn in their scholarship award letters so far. If you have received a scholarship, please email Mrs. Bradley a photo of that award letter. This will help her prepare for Honors Night on May 6. We would like to know about all the scholarships you have been awarded!
CONGRATULATIONS to this week's scholarship winners!
