Ripon Cathedral School Update

This week Year 6 had an amazing day out at How Stean Gorge. They took part in two exciting activities that really tested their stamina and resilience. The children explored caves underground. Crawling, climbing and navigating their way through the underground caverns with their head lamps helping them to find their way. They also put on wetsuits and explored the gorge. As there had been a lot of rain recently there were lots of slides for them to try. They all had a fabulous time and demonstrated great teamwork. Well done Year 6!

We continued our work on democracy this week when we had an election for the Sports Captains for each of our teams; Dragons, Sharks and Tigers. Across the school the children split into their teams and our Year 6 candidates prepared a short speech which they delivered. The children then voted for the Year 6 pupils that they would like as their captains.

We were delighted to receive a special delivery this week. The new dining tables look great and are definitely a big hit with our wonderful Midday Supervisor team as they are much easier to set up and manoeuvre. We are also finding that the children can talk with their friends more easily which helps the volume of noise in the hall.

We have a large number of old tables and chairs which we no longer require. If any parents would like any items, please get in touch. We would also like you to share this information with any local groups who might need the furniture and are happy for the photo of the old table and chairs to be posted on social media. There would be no charge but you would need to collect yourselves. Thank you.

Learning Beyond the Classroom has a vital part to play in meeting the demands of a broad and balanced curriculum, and in achieving the goal of preparing children for life beyond school. Educational visits, residential experiences and activities in the local area of the school and school grounds are an integral part of our whole school approach.

Exploring big ideas in science and technology can help pupils to see the big picture and understand how science and technology works in the world around them.

We encourage children to consider questions and use opportunities within lessons to explore concepts to gain a deeper understanding of curriculum topics.

As part of our curriculum, children are given the opportunity to work practically and apply learning in meaningful contexts. This can be through experiments, creating products and activities within our forest schools provision.

We introduced virtual appointments under Covid regulations but they proved popular, enabling parents to talk to the teacher from home or work without having to arrange childcare or an afternoon off work. However, we are aware some of you may prefer face to face meetings. To help us assess how we will run parents' evenings this year, we would appreciate answers to this short survey. Thank you.
