VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 3, WEEK 9, 2024.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHĀNAU!
THANK YOU TO...
As I reflect on my time here so far and the wonderful environment of Vogeltown School, it's important to acknowledge the work our teachers do each day. Our teachers dedicate many hours to not only teaching our children but also supporting their social development and nurturing their emotional well-being. Their commitment goes far beyond the classroom, often extending into their own time, as they prepare lessons, attend professional learning, or support extra curricula events.
Teachers play such a vital role in shaping the future through helping our children develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life. They handle challenges with grace, adapt to changing needs and expectations, and work hard to create an environment where all students feel included and valued. The passion they bring to their work makes a lasting impact on our children's lives, and we are fortunate to have them in our community.
In addition to our teachers, I also need to recognise the work of our support staff. Our teachers rely on our teacher aides to offer additional support for our children with their learning. They play a crucial role in the smooth running of our classes and we are grateful for the commitment they give to our school. Our administration staff work hard behind the scenes to ensure that the school runs smoothly every day, managing everything from communication to payroll, finances, release schedules, first aid and new enrolments. In other words, co-ordinating countless logistics that keep our school functioning effectively. We are grateful for the role they play in the success of our school.
I would also like to acknowledge the important contribution of our Board of Trustees. Their strategic leadership and commitment to the school’s vision help shape the direction of our school. They make decisions that ensure our school’s long-term success, from overseeing budgets and policies, to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of education for our students. The Board’s dedication and leadership help provide the strong foundation on which our school thrives.
Maybe when you’re next in, pay it forward by taking a moment to acknowledge the work of our teachers, support staff, or Board members - because they deserve it!
Ma te wā - see you later.
Ryves
NEW PLYMOUTH SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY
We couldn’t be prouder of the kids who took on the New Plymouth Schools Cross Country event - whether they were sprinting at the start like gazelles, trying to survive the hordes at the first hill, or dodging slippery patches of mud on tight corners! They were very well-behaved, and showed some serious resilience and competitiveness. And even though it was an afternoon full of huffing and puffing, they never stopped supporting each other.
Congratulations to the following children who achieved a top 10 result:
Arden Hunt - 2nd in 9 year old girls
Raine Donnelly - 2nd in 10 year old girls
Elsie Stone - 5th in 11 year old girls
Joe Zimmermann - 8th in 10 year old boys
Josh Gillum - 9th in 10 year old boys
In our eyes every child was a champion out there, and we just loved their determination. Well done, team!
TERM 4 TEACHER ONLY DAY
A teacher only day has been planned in Term 4 for Friday 25th October 2024
This is the second of two days allocated this year to provide teachers and kaiako with the opportunity to grow their confidence in implementing the refreshed literacy and mathematics curriculum.
ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL
Like all schools across we’re working hard to improve levels of attendance across the school. The Ministry of Education has set a target for all schools to have a high proportion of students with an attendance rate of 90% and better.
The evidence shows that attendance is directly related to how well learners achieve, in both primary and secondary school. The more learners attend, the higher their achievement. There is no safe level of non‐attendance – even missing just two days a term is linked to lower achievement.
Going to school is important for learners’ wellbeing too. The research shows that more frequent non‐attendance is associated with worse wellbeing outcomes, including schoolwork‐related anxiety, decreased sense of belonging, and fewer friendships with peers.
We’re keen to work with you to ensure all children have access to regular learning. If you have any aspects of attendance that you need to discuss, I recommend making a time to talk with your child’s teacher.
ROOM 13 PLANT PROPAGATION
On Thursday the children were involved in preparing seedlings. They were actively involved, showing a lot of enthusiasm and enjoyment. They took great care of the plants, with many of the children returning at the break to check on what they had planted.
HATS IN TERM 4
It's almost that time of year when our tamariki need protection from the sun's harmful rays - bucket hats must be worn every day during Term 4. We have the famous Vogeltown School bucket hats for sale at the senior office for $17 each, but any bucket hat can be worn. Children not wearing a hat will need to remain in a shaded area during break times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS FOR 2025
Enrolment at Vogeltown School / Te Kura o Huatoki
Enrolment at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office. Applications for out of zone places are now being invited for those children who will become eligible for enrolment during the 2025 school year.
The Board has determined there are 3 places available for out-of-zone students next year.
The deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone places is Friday 27 September 2024.
If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, then a ballot for out of zone places will be held on Wednesday 16 October 2024. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Friday 18 October 2024.
The exact number of places available at each school will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
Please contact the School Principal - Ryves Hunt if you have any queries regarding this.
